Our client an iconic 110 year old South African Brand is currently looking for an experience Senior HR Officer to be based in Durban.

Position: Senior HR Officer
Location: Durban KZN
Reporting Line: HR Executive
Job Summary:
The role will support Management on specific projects and processes. The role will support fundamentally the Group HR Executive in the pursuit of the broader HR Agenda at strategic, tactical and operational levels. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for the full employee life cycle and will be involved in all areas of the Human Resources Function.
In line with the strengths of the current HR Team the successful candidate will be expected to be biased towards resourcing of the organization as well expediting the Training and Development Agenda of the Group in collaboration with the HR Team and other relevant stakeholders. Occasionally the position is expected to deputise for the HR Executive in various forums where invited and or warranted.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: 
  • B Degree or Diploma in HRM or the equivalent qualification
  • A postgraduate qualification will serve as an added advantage
  • Minimum 8 years human resources experience preferably in a large, complex corporate environment
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Recruitment and Training & Development
  • Advanced Excel Capability

Roles and Responsibilities

HR Strategy, HR Policy, Procedure and Resources
  • In collaboration with Group HR Executive and the broader HR Team, play an effective role in the creation of relevant HR Strategies to support Group Operations.
  • In collaboration with the HR Team at Head Office play a significant part in the implementation of the HR Strategies that are mandated.
  • In collaboration with the HR Executive, play a significant role in initiating policies. This entails writing of the new policies and procedures and adapting old policies and procedures when such a need arises after having received the authorisation of the Group HR Executive.
  • Implement agreed and mandated policies of the Group and ensure employees are sufficiently / reasonably informed on HR Policies.
  • Evaluate processes and procedures for optimisation and remedial actions to ensure the HR Function is proactive, rests on a sound footing and the Department is solution oriented and professional.
  • Create a suite of document templates e.g. employment contracts, variation to contract letters, invitation to meeting letters, resignation letters, HR Admin forms et cetera in line with ISO requirements.
  • Ensure that all templates of the HR Department are always updated and that all are accessible to the HR Team.
  • Form part of the Group HR Forum and contribute accordingly.
Recruitment and Selection
  • Ensure consistent application of policies, processes relative to recruitment and selection.
  • Spearhead the recruitment and placement of mandated positions at Patterson C4 and above across the Group and or any other authorised positions as mandated by Management.
  • Liaise with the HR Team, Management, Recruitment Agencies and other relevant service providers within the confines of Company policy, procedure and general ethical conduct.
  • Coordinate response handling; receive al CV’s, shortlisting candidates, prepare interviews, conducting interviews and ITC and reference checks.
  • Coordinate occupational assessments for all positions in scope and administer the assessment results for decision-making and thus giving feedback to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the selection milestones within the agreed time lines.
  • Administer offers of employment in collaboration with Management and HR Executive in particular.
  • Perform administration duties which include pension fund administration and medical aid queries.
  • Administer KPA’s for all new employees in scope in conjunction with the Heads of Departments.
  • Administer the probationary arrangements and appropriate reviews with new employees in scope.
  • Conduct stay-interviews with new employees in the relevant departments to gauge culture fit, performance and prospects of success of new employees.
 Skills Development/Employee Training
  • Monitor and facilitate knowledge acquisition and reporting on the effectiveness of programmes and interventions in accomplishing the medium- and long-term skills development objectives of the company
  • Collaborate with Heads of Departments to gain knowledge of work situation requiring training of employees.
  • Collaborate extensively with the HR Teams and the Group HR Executive to spearhead People Planning / Talent Pools / Succession Planning for key roles and key departments across the organization.
  • Plan and provide training of staff on basic operational needs whilst coordinating external training on identified programmes for employees.
  • Monitor the training budget and the training spend to determine value for money and or ROI
  • Coordinate concise and yet impactful induction sessions for new employees in all operating levels that are defined.
  • Monitor and report on training projects and the enhancement of training initiatives.
  • Ensure proper record keeping for reporting purposes i.e. WSP, ATR, BEE.
  • Support the submission of the relevant reports, WSP’s, ATR’S to the relevant external bodies.
  • Complete WSP’S and ATR’S in line with SETA requirements.
  • Ensure that reports, correspondence and documentation and information are recorded, processed and maintained in accordance with administrative procedures.
  • Coordinate the updating of qualifications of all employees in the Group (Qualifications Audit and Profile
  • Serve as the Skills Development Facilitator for the Group.
Employee Relations
  • Assist in ensuring that fair labour practices are adhered to in the own area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate disciplinary hearings on site and ensure proper application of Company procedure and retention of records as and when assigned.
  • Attend to CCMA Matters when required 

HR Support, Generalist Functions & Administration
  • Act as a Consultant to other departments with regards to HR Issues to ensure an efficient HR Support service.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the Departments and be readily be accessible to the departments.
  • Constantly provide relevant updates and information as well as training when necessary.
  • Liaise extensively with the Payroll Department to ensure the correct submission of documents and or the accurate payment of employees in line with Executive Mandates.
  • Work closely with the Payroll Department to ensure workforce information is kept up to date and any problems identified and addressed.
  • Work with the Group HR Executive to guide and advise management and employees through all aspects of the employee life cycle to include absence management, investigations, discipline, grievance, capability, in accordance with consistent application of policies and procedures and compliance with employment law and best practices.
  • Ensure the gathering of payroll input i.e. new engagements, promotions, change of status information, termination information and submission to relevant department thereof
  • Assist with coordination of employee exit interviews.
Statutory Reporting and Projects

  • Gathering of information and updating of reports as per due dates i.e. skills development, employment equity
  • Attend to assigned projects on time and expeditiously without fail
