Job Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Claims Handler to join their short-term insurance brokerage. The Senior Claims Handler will be responsible for managing and processing a wide range of insurance claims, ensuring that they are handled efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with legal and company requirements. This role demands an individual with in-depth knowledge of insurance policies, claim management processes, and excellent customer service skills. The Senior Claims Handler will work closely with clients, insurers, adjusters, and other stakeholders to ensure that claims are settled in a timely and satisfactory manner.

The Senior Claims Handler will work closely with clients, insurers, adjusters, and other stakeholders to ensure that claims are settled in a timely and satisfactory manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Claims Management:
- Manage a portfolio of complex short-term insurance claims, including property, motor, liability, and personal lines claims.
- Oversee the entire claims process from notification to settlement, ensuring compliance with policy terms and conditions.
- Evaluate and assess the validity of claims, identifying any potential fraud or misrepresentation.
- Liaise with clients, insurers, brokers, and third-party vendors (e.g., adjusters, lawyers) to gather necessary information and facilitate the claims process.
- Claims Investigation & Assessment:
- Investigate and assess the causes and circumstances of claims to determine coverage, liability, and appropriate settlement.
- Coordinate and manage loss adjusters, assessors, and experts for detailed investigations as required.
- Analyze policy coverage and exclusions to advise clients on potential outcomes.
- Conduct site visits and interviews when necessary to gather evidence.
- Client Communication & Customer Service:
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, providing regular updates and guidance on the claims process.
- Advise clients on the terms of their policies and the claims process to manage expectations.
- Provide excellent customer service, ensuring that clients are satisfied with the outcome and process of their claims.
- Handle difficult or contentious claims and complaints, finding solutions in line with company policies and legal requirements.
- Claims Settlement:
- Ensure claims are processed in a timely manner, adhering to all relevant guidelines, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Determine claim settlements, negotiate settlements with clients, legal representatives, and insurance carriers as required.
- Review and approve payments, ensuring they are accurate and in line with policy terms and coverage.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of claims, including investigation notes, correspondence, assessments, and decisions.
- Provide regular reports to management on claims trends, outstanding issues, and other relevant matters.
- Ensure that all claims documentation is compliant with legal and regulatory standards.
- Team Leadership & Mentoring:
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to junior claims handlers and other team members.
- Assist in the development of training materials and resources to support the ongoing professional development of the claims team.
- Foster a collaborative and productive team environment, supporting the continuous improvement of claims handling processes.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Stay up-to-date with industry regulations, policies, and legal requirements to ensure all claims are processed in compliance with relevant laws.
- Ensure that claims are handled in a way that minimizes the risk to the brokerage, ensuring proper documentation, thorough investigations, and accurate settlements.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and recommend improvements to claims handling processes, systems, and customer service.
- Participate in regular reviews of claims processes and identify opportunities for enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
- Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in claims management.
- Education:
- A degree or diploma in insurance, business administration, or a related field.
- Insurance industry qualifications such as the CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) or similar professional certifications are advantageous.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in claims handling, preferably within short-term insurance (motor, property, liability).
- Experience in managing and processing high-complexity or high-value claims.
- A strong understanding of insurance policies, claims procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven track record of managing a portfolio of claims and settling claims effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, insurers, and colleagues.
- Negotiation skills, with the ability to manage contentious claims and find mutually agreeable solutions.
- Attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple claims and deadlines.
- Proficiency in insurance management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and relevant software tools.
