Role Purpose

To assist with all occupational hygiene laboratory functions and to coordinate and administer the day-to-day operations of the department.

Requirements

  • A National Senior Certificate is essential
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree (BSc Hons, MPH, MHSc or MSc in Occupational Hygiene / Physiology / Biological Sciences / Environmental Sciences)
  • Professional registration with SAIOH as an Occupational Hygiene Assistant or Occupational Hygiene Technologist
  • Must be in possession of a Legal Knowledge certificate, as required by the Department of Employment and Labour
  • At least 1 years' Occupational Hygiene consulting / laboratory experience is essential
  • Knowledge and understanding of occupational hygiene equipment, instrumentation, methods and procedures to conduct Inspections, Tests and Surveys
  • Office 365 proficiency (particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the team in a timely manner.
  • Escalate faults and other housekeeping issues with the relevant service provider and ensure queries are resolved within the given timeframes.
  • Collate, compile and distribute documents and reports to the required standards within defined timeframes.
  • Develop and maintain various databases and records.
  • Assist with the planning of Occupational Hygiene Surveys.
  • Attend to phone calls and refer to relevant employees to assist clients.
  • Conduct Occupational Hygiene inspections, surveys, and tests under the direct supervision of a Registered Occupational Hygienist / Occupational Hygiene Technologist.
  • Analyse samples collected during surveys or have them analysed by an approved SANAS laboratory.
  • Process data and prepare reports according to prescribed quality standards under the direct supervision of a Registered Occupational Hygienist.
  • Administration of laboratory functions.
  • Calibration and preparation of measuring equipment for inspections, surveys and tests.
  • Clean and maintain measuring equipment.
  • Control consumables stock, chemicals, filter media, tube media and diffusion badges.
  • Gravimetric determination of filters, asbestos fiber counting and asbestos identification.
  • Provide authoritative expertise and advice to clients and stakeholders.
  • Participate and contribute to a culture that builds rewarding relationships, facilitates feedback and provides exceptional client service.
  • Encourage innovation, change agility, and collaboration within the team.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency and communicate recommendations to the Head of Department.
  • Manage financial and other company resources under your control with due respect.
