Responsibilities

  • Contributes to optimize the HR organization and HR processes & procedure in the SSA Region
  • Implements HR policies & processes in alignment with corporate guidelines and Regional specifications
  • Supports in reviewing/updating and implementing Policies and Procedures for the region
  • Takes the lead on development of local policies and procedures for the Sub Saharan (SSA) entity where required. Aligns these with local management
  • Manages and coordinates HR functions and activities in the SSA region in alignment with the regional MDs
  • Interact with local MDs and MEA HR to develop local HR strategies that support and complement business strategies
  • Responsible for workforce planning, staffing, recruiting and onboarding of all staff in Evonik Africa
  • Implements performance management and talent development. Responsible for the implementation of any skills development plans for employees.
  • Supports MEA HR during job grading and salary band alignment across the SSA.
  • Providing to Head of HR MEA annual salary and bonus calculation proposals
  • Responsible for employment contracts, offer letters, job descriptions and local legislations of SSA region.
  • Co-ordinating Medical Aid Issues/Co-ordinating Pension Fund issues/ Serve on Pension Fund Committee for SSA
  • Manage any personnel and/or disciplinary topics within SSA, in alignment with local MDs of Evonik Africa and Evonik Peroxide Africa.
  • Continuous support to both Evonik Africa office as well as Evonik Peroxide plant employees on a day to day operational basis
  • Ensuring Personnel Files, master database and Workday elements are updated in a timely manner as per file requirements. Maintaining all employee documentation
  • Manage all HR related administrative elements for both Evonik Africa office and the Evonik Peroxide plant. This includes liaison with unions at plant level.
  • Filing of all relevant employee documentation
  • Employment Equity – Evonik Africa & EPA/ Workmans Compensation – Evonik Africa & EPA
  • Employment Equity Submission for Evonik Africa & EPA
  • Must have the ability to manage all B-BBEE HR related elements for Evonik Africa
  • EA / EPA Tax Y/End – EMP501’s / IRP5’s and monthly payments to SARS
  • Workmans Compensation – Evonik Africa & EPA
  • Assist employees with salary queries (medical aid / pension) and liaise with finance where necessary

Preferable, but not mandatory responsibilities:

  • Responsible for internal payroll including steering of external payroll company for EA, EPA, Ghana & Kenya
  • Quarter Close Salary Reconciliation
  • Provisions – 13th Cheque, Leave Pay
  • Annual Leave Register for all above Pay Rolls

Requirements

  • University (First degree), preferred HR or related subject
  • Minimum 5 years of HR Generalist experience in SSA (Sub Sahara Africa)
  • Experience in multinational/corporate organization
  • Knowledge of BBBEE, Employment equity , workman's compensation, unions and insurances
  • HR ERP systems knowledge, Workday knowledge is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of payroll administration experience
  • Proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft office including but not limited to Power point, excel
  • Flexibility to travel between Durban and Midrand
  • Fluent in English. Zulu, Afrikaans' or any other local languages are preferred
  • Uses clear and effective verbal communications skills without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on expressing ideas, requesting actions and formulating plans or policies.
  • Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on developing, monitoring, interpreting and understanding policies and procedures, while making sure they match organizational strategies and objectives.
  • Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on motivating all employees to learn, grow and develop so that they can obtain the knowledge and experience they need to help the organization reach its goals.
  • Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on achieving full compliance with applicable rules and regulations in management and/or operations.
  • Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on acquiring, organizing, protecting and processing data to fulfill business objectives.
