Job Purpose
To lead and manage all procurement activities across the Vector Logistics business, ensuring effective sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and cost-efficient procurement of goods and services in line with business objectives. This role will drive the development of procurement strategies, deliver cost savings, manage supplier relationships, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Procurement Manager will play a pivotal role in enabling operational excellence and innovation within the supply chain.

Job Purpose
To lead and manage all procurement activities across the Vector Logistics business, ensuring effective sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and cost-efficient procurement of goods and services in line with business objectives. This role will drive the development of procurement strategies, deliver cost savings, manage supplier relationships, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Procurement Manager will play a pivotal role in enabling operational excellence and innovation within the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the overall procurement strategy aligned to the business's operational and financial goals.
- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure advantageous terms and mitigate supply risks.
- Implement and monitor procurement policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance and consistency.
- Lead contract negotiation and management across all spend categories, ensuring commercial terms are favourable.
- Collaborate with finance and operations to forecast procurement needs, manage budgets, and drive value creation.
- Oversee category management, supplier segmentation, and performance management processes.
- Manage procurement reporting, data analytics, and performance dashboards to support decision-making.
- Build strong internal stakeholder relationships to understand requirements and support strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Champion continuous improvement in procurement processes and promote digital tools to increase efficiency.
- Ensure B-BBEE procurement compliance and drive transformation initiatives across the supplier base.
- Lead risk assessments and implement mitigation plans in collaboration with operational teams.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the procurement team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
Internal
- Work closely with operations, finance, warehouse, sales, and compliance teams to align procurement activities.
- Engage with suppliers, regulatory authorities, and industry bodies to maintain best practices and compliance.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required for the Job
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
- CIPS Certification or equivalent procurement qualification is advantageous.
- Minimum 7+ years’ procurement experience, preferably in an FMCG or logistics environment.
- At least 3 years in a managerial or strategic sourcing role.
- Demonstrated success in managing high-value supplier contracts and sourcing events.
- Experience in change management and process optimisation.
- Solid background in stakeholder engagement and supplier performance management.
- Exposure to sustainability and ESG-related procurement initiatives would be a plus.
- Proven ability to develop and implement procurement strategies.
- Strong negotiation and commercial acumen.
- Excellent knowledge of supply chain and logistics operations.
- Deep understanding of contracts, supplier management, and risk mitigation.
- Familiarity with procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and e-sourcing platforms.
- Highly analytical with strong Excel and reporting tool skills (Power BI is advantageous).
- Ability to influence at senior levels and manage cross-functional teams.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., B-BBEE, PFMA).
