Requirements
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years’ experience in asset/wealth management, ideally in discretionary fund management or adviser distribution models.
- Demonstrated experience owning and evolving investment propositions, model portfolios, or multi-asset solutions.
- Strong understanding of SA & UK regulatory environment (FSCA, Two-Pot, Retirement Reform, FCA, PROD, MiFID II, Consumer Duty, POPIA, TCF, Cat I & Cat II requirements, model portfolios, fund of funds, etc) and product governance frameworks.
- Proven strategic thinker and commercial operator with strong financial acumen.
- Outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills, including experience engaging senior executives and advisers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing board-level materials and client-facing content.
- Professional investment qualification (e.g., CFA, IMC, CII Diploma, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with investment platforms, adviser tech stacks, and digital delivery of DFM services.
- Exposure to multi-jurisdictional propositions or international distribution models.
Portfolio Management
- Construct and manage investment portfolios based on the outcomes of the mandate and client
- Monitor, review or resolve potential risk drivers that may lead to increased
- Make recommendations to enhance the investment mandates to increase profitability or cost effectiveness of the investment solution.
- Foster effective working relationships and collaborate with the segments and external
- Manage the ongoing monitoring and performance measurement of solutions to ensure the product is managed relative to the outcome defined, market benchmark and client expectation.
- Monitor and report on portfolio
- Provide technical advice and expertise regarding portfolio construction in order to support sales or marketing initiatives.
- The following activities will be done in close collaboration and partnership with the MD: EQ Invest.
- Own and continuously evolve the firm's DFM proposition across multiple client segments (Generalists, Investment Specialists and Wholistic Advisers) for both group-owned businesses and external segments.
- Develop a clear strategic vision and multi-year roadmap that aligns with business objectives, growth ambitions, and market positioning.
- Be instrumental by driving growth into local and offshore solutions by creating efficiencies, and better insights and reporting through partnerships and the use of technology.
- Design tailored propositions to address specific adviser and end-client needs, leveraging segmentation, user feedback, and competitor insights.
- Work closely with distribution and marketing to ensure client insight is embedded into proposition design and ongoing evolution.
- Deliver internal and external presentations articulating proposition developments, including CPD-accredited training and strategic updates.
- Define, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the proposition suite, including asset growth, client retention, revenue, cost-to-serve, and adviser engagement metrics.
- Provide input into pricing strategy for the proposition, ensuring competitive positioning while protecting profitability and value alignment across tiers and segments.
- Build commercial cases for new initiatives and investment, presenting to ExCo or Board-level forums as required.
- Oversee the product-owner function to ascertain key deliverables, priorities and OKRs are regularly met.
- Collaborate with Investment Management, Operations, Compliance, Technology, Risk, Legal, and Client Services to deliver scalable, compliant, and operationally efficient propositions.
- Ensure propositions meet all product governance standards, including target market definition, value assessments, risk disclosures, and fair treatment under Consumer Duty.
- Chair or contribute to product governance committees, proposition steering groups, and regulatory review forums as required.
- Embed regulatory requirements and controls into proposition development and management, including MiFID II, PRIIPs, PROD, ESG disclosures, Consumer Duty, and cross-border distribution considerations (where applicable).
- Maintain documentation (target market assessments, value assessments, product reviews) in line with internal policy, auditing, financial and FSCA expectations.
- Respond to regulatory developments and participate in FSCA consultations where relevant to proposition strategy.
- As a senior member of the foster a high-performance culture focused on delivery, integrity, and innovation.
- Represent the firm externally with strategic distribution partners, platforms, research houses, trade bodies, and at industry events.
- Provide regular updates to Executive Committees, Board sub-committees, and internal working groups regarding proposition performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Internal: Investment Team, Distribution, Operations, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Marketing, IT, Finance, Institutional teams, Consult and MFP.
- External: Advisers, DFMs, Platforms, Consultants, Strategic Partners, Industry Bodies, Asset Managers.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to translate high-level market dynamics into practical, actionable proposition strategies.
- Client-Centricity: Strong empathy for client and adviser needs, ensuring value delivery across the lifecycle.
- Execution Excellence: Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects in cross-functional settings.
- Analytical Insight: Comfortable using data and insights to inform proposition evolution and performance tracking.
