Job Purpose
The Sales & Marketing Manager for the unit will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the unit’s sales and marketing team and achievement of sales targets across international and local markets and distribution channels through the planning, management and delivery of brand awareness, customer acquisition, growth, reactivation and retention strategies and campaigns with the aim of maximising the revenue potential of the business.
As the custodian of the hotel brand, the role will be required to oversee all content deliverables, ensuring that the brand is relevantly showcased in the market across all customer and stakeholder platforms.
The Sales and Marketing Manager will also be responsible for Public Relations to positively position and promote the hotel’s image and brand reputation management in the public domain. In addition, the role will focus on building engaged marketing talent to support innovative Hospitality marketing solutions into the future.

Key Performance Areas
- Develop new and innovative strategic marketing plans and breakthroughs for a competitive market advantage to support the operationalisation of the current and future hotel revenue and growth strategy
- Provide short- and long-term market and sales forecasts and reports by directing market research collection, analysis, and interpretation of market data.
- Influences present and future products by determining and evaluating current and future market trends.
- Develops and adapts strategies (including pricing strategies) to meet changing business priorities (environmental changes, market trends)
- Grow the hotel’s brand to increase customer recognition and grow interest and excitement around the brand as the hotel, conferencing, events, leisure and most loved entertainment brand.
- Promote the company’s reputation in all messaging with the public including effective social media and media relations with broadcast, print and new media channels
- Collaborate with the team to positively position and protect the hotel’s ongoing reputation management
- Drive customer acquisition and retention campaigns to grow the hotel’s brand via multiple distribution channels to multiple audiences
- Quality assure system data to ensure optimised use and management of meaningful data to target campaigns to the correct market and perform research, analysis and effective reporting
- Oversee the unit’s PR function to develop and deliver effective communications strategies, managing media relations and critical reputation situations
- Develop and implement a crisis communication policy in terms of business continuity management and be the subject matter expert in handling and protecting the hotel’s reputation in times of crisis management and threatening situations
- Develop and monitor external PR policies, protocol and standards across business operations (integrating with marketing, communications and digital principles, channels and strategies)
- Oversee the organisation and programme management of PR, brand-building events ensuring critical relationships with key stakeholders, sponsors and operating teams are developed and grown
- Develop and deliver marketing and direct marketing campaigns from conceptualisation through the life cycle including the measuring the campaigns, to support the achievement of business objectives, leisure revenue targets and ROI
- Develop and support VIP and key customer relationships to grow customer visitation, acquisition and retention targets
- Team management including developing and coaching the unit’s marketing talent to deliver objectives
- Provide inspirational leadership to enhance employee engagement and motivation and nurture a performance driven culture within Hospitality marketing
- Build, negotiate and manage relationship agreements with key suppliers, business partners and sponsors to achieve the business objectives and leverage new opportunities and joint initiatives
- Develop and manage the financials for the Sales & Marketing function including: Budget, rates and revenue targets, cost management, Capex, PIP and forecasting, reporting on campaigns and sales and marketing initiatives
- Oversee the development and updating of standards and processes for sales and marketing aligned with new legislative compliance around CPA, POPI, and other related legislation, ensuring these are communicated and audited on a regular basis
- Implement sufficient control measures (including systems and processes) & checks within the department to mitigate any risk to the business.
- Drive a culture of quality standards, ethics and governance and ensure all staff are competent in relevant legislation and regulatory standards to deliver against those standards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or Communications or relevant equivalent
- 10-12 years’ marketing experience including 5 years’ experience in marketing management, including facets of PR, media relations and content management
- Demonstrable experience in the planning and implementation of marketing strategies, campaigns and promotions in hotels
- Demonstrable experience in the use of digital marketing and social media campaigns and multimedia content creation
- Demonstrable experience in the creation, management and enhancement of leisure brands
- Demonstrable experience in public relations including relationships with media and journalists
- Travel to all units required on a regular basis
- May be required to work outside of normal working hours, in line with operational requirements (including weekends, public holidays)
