PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The role is responsible for the plant and process improvements of all production plants, as well as design, installation and commissioning of new equipment and processes to expand/improve capacity, efficiency, processes and products at the Wellington Site using engineering best practices.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Take lead for implementation of Process Safety Management in area of responsibility
- Support Manufacturing Process design (existing and new products). New product introduction, cradle to grave, following the concept, development, risk mitigation, qualification process, process safety and company’s design guidelines for optimal manufacturing process and cost.
- Support continuous development of all manufacturing documentation (FOI’s and PMI’s)
- Responsible for accuracy and update of MBoM’s and routings.
- Quality and Safety related failure investigations. Propose and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct Process equipment sizing and specification to develop detailed equipment specifications
- Support plant with process related Management of change (Modifications)
- Initiate, plan and execute OPEX and CAPEX projects
- Process safety considerations in process design, equipment specification and control philosophy
- Facilitate HAZOP studies and process risk assessments (e.g. PFMEA)
- Support site Continuous Improvement initiatives
- First line support for major breakdowns and process deviations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of BEng/BSc/BTech degree in Chemical Engineering
- Compulsory to have >3 years of professional experience in chemical plants as an Engineer (Internship experience not included) or in a continuous manufacturing environment, experience in Explosives/ Hazardous material (For example concentrated acids) manufacturing will be a distinct advantage
- It will be an added advantage to have a mechanical engineering knowledge (example basics on pump mechanical seals, bearings, etc).
- Knowledge of Project Management, a Project Management qualification will be a distinct advantage
- Process Safety Management qualification or experience will be a distinct advantage.
- Knowledge of Process design, process development and commissioning in manufacturing is critical.
- Good understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals
- Knowledge of SAP and a PLM software (example Siemens Teamcentre) is an added advantage.
- Analytical thinker with good reasoning and problem-solving skills on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Planning and prioritization of multiple tasks, organisational and administrative skills.
- Proficient computer skills –MS Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project,
- Self-starter with the ability to operate with minimum supervision
- Ability to work precisely and methodically with minimum supervision.
