Job Description
The Legal function provides strategic legal advice to senior group stakeholders globally in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements, and supports and enables the achievement of the De Beers Group’s business objectives while managing risk and identifying opportunities for value creation and continuous improvement.
To develop, coordinate, support and manage the operational framework within which the Legal function partners with the business to deliver the business’ strategic objectives, fostering innovation and technological advancement, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing and identifying risks and opportunities with specific reference to the provision of in-house legal.

Job Description

In the role of Legal Operations Manger, the day to day responsibilities include,
- Support the creation of a legal integration framework and service delivery model.
- Identify, advocate for and integrate legal tech solutions to improve legal operations, including contract management systems and AI-driven analytics.
- Partner with IM and vendors to innovate, especially in legal permitting and contracting space.
- Stay updated with legal technology trends, keeping the legal team at the forefront of advances.
- Establish an legal risk reporting standard and oversee regular reporting.
- Formulate a proactive risk management approach for Legal and collaborate across jurisdictions for consistent risk evaluation and mitigation.
- Host team meetings and workshops for knowledge sharing and addressing emerging issues.
- Cultivate a culture where team members contribute to and access a central knowledge base.
- Oversee the training initiatives for the legal team, ensuring they're equipped with necessary expertise.
- Identify skill gaps and promote ongoing professional growth for the team.
- Design a strategy for managing the legal budget, focusing on cost-effectiveness.
- Track and report on the budget performance of the legal division.
- Refine legal processes and strategies to maintain the Health of Discipline for Legal.
- Qualified lawyer with experience working in a similar role for a large global organisation
- Operational experience in understanding value chains and process driven organisations
- Commercial, Finance business partnering experience
- Experience in a multinational business of comparable scale and complexity
- Knowledge of key themes and drivers of an in house legal environment, including cost management, technology and risk management
- Familiarity with legal operations preferred but not essential
- Familiarity with legal management software
- Knowledge of AI-driven legal analytics tools and their application
- Ability to evaluate and integrate emerging legal tech solutions
- Proficiency in using collaboration tools and platforms suitable for global teams
- Ability to identify training needs and source relevant training modules
- Skills in budget planning
- Skills in data visualization and presentation
- Understanding of project management methodologies suitable for legal projects
- Establish, implement and use a clear governance, delegation and decision making system
- Understanding of key internal and external metrics, rule sets and standards
- Performance analysis in relation to legal processes and the ability to understand legal processes as a series of repeatable tasks
- Perform analysis in relation to assessing legal risk
- Strong organisation skills and a high level of attention to detail
