Job Purpose
To oversee all aspects of the Operations functions, while maintaining a high level of service to customers,
measuring and monitoring vendor and staff performance and controlling overall operational costs. Consciously
establishes a culture that encourages customer focus, individual development, efficiency, collaboration, and
creates an environment for process improvements. Upholds and ensures that all Hapag-Lloyd policies and
procedures are followed and maintained.
Key Functions and Accountabilities:
Oversee the implementation of the strategy, monitoring the achievement of relevant targets and
measurements
Manage day to day Operations activities in South Africa, Port and Landside, supporting the achievement of
set targets
Ensure work is conducted within the context of established Hapag-Lloyd policies and procedures
relevant for the function
Coach and develop staff, conducting regular one-on-one, performance reviews in line with company
policy and management requirements
Establish KPI’s to monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of the department as a whole and of individual
members
Ensure that managers and staff maintain departmental standards, striving for consistent
improvement, and adherence to set key performance indicators
Organize market intelligence for ports, terminals, depots, truck and feeder operators.
Supplier relationship management
Supplier performance management
Develop operational strategies and SOPs to increase the company’s presence in the area
Budgeting, cost control, reporting and cost mitigation strategies
Inter departmental collaboration
Stakeholder management
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Bachelor’s Degree, preferable
Ability to anticipate future consequences and trends accurately
Establishes a climate in which people strive to do their best
Strong communication skills, networking skills and interpersonal skills through which he or she will
engage a broad range of colleagues and stakeholders.
Develops team by providing challenging and stimulating assignments, in line with development plans
Ability to organize people and activities to take advantage of synergies and integration

Skills and Knowledge Required:

- Experience in operations and managing high performing teams
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Strong Data Analytics / Business Intelligence competency
- Knowledge of the shipping industry
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements.
