Job Purpose
To lead and manage all sourcing and procurement activities across the Vector Logistics business, ensuring effective sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and cost-efficient procurement of goods and services in line with business objectives. The role requires managing and coordinating critical business support functions, including insurance and claims management; facilities oversight, master data governance, returnable packaging management and various other company administrative responsibilities to support the organization’s strategic and operational goals.

Job Purpose
To lead and manage all sourcing and procurement activities across the Vector Logistics business, ensuring effective sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and cost-efficient procurement of goods and services in line with business objectives. The role requires managing and coordinating critical business support functions, including insurance and claims management; facilities oversight, master data governance, returnable packaging management and various other company administrative responsibilities to support the organization’s strategic and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Sourcing
- Develop and execute the overall procurement strategy aligned to the business's operational and financial goals.
- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure advantageous terms and mitigate supply risks.
- Implement and monitor procurement policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance and consistency.
- Lead contract negotiation and management across all spend categories, ensuring commercial terms are favourable.
- Collaborate with finance and operations to forecast procurement needs, manage budgets, and drive value creation.
- Oversee category management, supplier segmentation, and performance management processes.
- Manage procurement reporting, data analytics, and performance dashboards to support decision-making.
- Build strong internal stakeholder relationships to understand requirements and support strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Champion continuous improvement in procurement processes and promote digital tools to increase efficiency.
- Ensure B-BBEE procurement compliance and drive transformation initiatives across the supplier base.
- Lead risk assessments and implement mitigation plans in collaboration with operational teams.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the procurement team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
- Manage the procurement of centralized goods & services for the company.
- Centralized procurement includes managing purchase orders, approvals, payments, and vendor management for centralized goods & services.
- Lead the insurance renewal process and ensure the company is adequately insured. Manage all underwriting surveys and findings closure.
- Drive the reduction in accident and other claim statistics/incidents.
- Coordinate the central logging of all claims, including the resolution of all claims.
- Oversee the insurance programme and guide the business with insurance related matters.
- Develop and implement alternative risk transfer strategies, including cell captives to optimize the organization’s risk financing approach.
- Promote insurance awareness within the business and cold chain industry (such as the Global Cold Chain Alliance).
- Ensure the effective management, maintenance, and operation of the Head Office facility, including buildings, grounds, infrastructure, and related services.
- Ensure a safe, compliant, efficient, and cost-effective working head office environment that supports the organization’s operational objectives.
- Drive and manage an effective and efficient travel management process in business.
- Facilitate and promote travel cost savings initiatives and policy compliance.
- Oversee and mitigate any risks with regard to the approval of all lease agreements/ rental agreements/ other binding contracts (non- stock & services).
- Validation and approval of all credit applications.
- Facilitate and manage the company credit card facility.
- Facilitate and manage the company cell/data card facility.
- Oversee & Manage all One Time Vendor creations & payments.
- Manage and oversee the accurate and timely creation, maintenance, and governance of vendor master data (new vendors/service materials) within the organization’s ERP.
- Ensures that all vendor records meet compliance, audit, and business requirements and support efficient procurement and payment processes.
- Ensure effective management and clean-up of redundant vendor records in the master data system.
Internal
- Work closely with operations, finance, warehouse, sales, and compliance teams to align procurement activities.
- Engage with suppliers, regulatory authorities, and industry bodies to maintain best practices and compliance.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required for the Job
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
- CIPS Certification or equivalent procurement qualification is advantageous.
- Membership of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) is advantageous.
- Minimum 7+ years’ sourcing experience, preferably in an FMCG or logistics environment.
- Minimum 7+ years insurance and company administration experience.
- At least 3 years in a managerial or strategic sourcing and insurance role.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in strategic procurement or sourcing.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in insurance and company administration.
- Demonstrated success in managing high-value supplier contracts and sourcing events.
- Experience in change management and process optimisation.
- Solid background in stakeholder engagement and supplier performance management.
- Exposure to sustainability and ESG-related procurement initiatives would be a plus.
- Exposure to cell captives or other forms of risk transfer insurance would be a plus.
- Resolve complex supply and contractual disputes effectively.
- Drive cost optimisation while maintaining service levels and supplier quality.
- Design procurement frameworks that support both long-term and immediate operational needs.

- Ability to influence at senior levels and manage cross-functional teams.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., B-BBEE, PFMA).
