Role: The Functional Developer works closely with a team consisting of a project manager, a Business Analyst, a Team Lead, Developers and Quality Assurance specialists. In this role, the Functional Developer serves as the critical bridge between business requirements and technical implementation, ensuring that insurance products and processes are configured accurately within the Policy Administration System (PAS), such as OIPA.

Functional Developers will develop superior analytical skills, insurance industry expertise, and the ability to translate business rules into system behavior. They will gain valuable programming concepts, become adept with relational databases, and build fluency in solution design. Over time, they become subject matter experts in the insurance domain, product configuration, and solution design, and serve as trusted advisors to both business and technical teams.

Your Day with Equisoft:

  • Perform configuration development and release management for the Oracle Insurance Policy Administration (OIPA) system
  • Maintain and grow insurance industry and technical knowledge competencies
  • Collaborate with configuration team, technical team and business analysts to ensure OIPA system is configured to achieve the system behavior defined by the business requirements
  • Participate in self-directed learning - specifically in configuration syntax and Insurance Business Knowledge
  • Analyze and resolve basic problems to maintain data integrity, process integrity, and system performance
  • Work in a client service context, involving client interactions at various levels


Requirements:

Technical

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Actuarial studies; and/or equivalent job experience
  • Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with XML, SQL and relational/entity databases, and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Visio)
  • Understanding of system design and development processes
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to deliver high-quality projects on time and within scope
  • Inquisitive and proactive approach with an ability to work independently and a desire to continuously learn new skills and technologies;

Nice to Haves:

  • 1-3 years of experience working with the OIPA platform and/or equivalent job experience
  • Knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes and workflow
  • Some exposure to SDLC (Waterfall, Agile, etc.)
  • Product knowledge of insurance and/or annuity products
  • Knowledge of software testing best practices
