PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To drive the overall management, direction and continuous improvement of the Asset Capability Assurance process in a safe manner, through clearly defined strategies and objectives for the maintenance of the trackless fleet, workshop facilities and associated re-fuelling facilities.
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:- Manage SHEQ compliance within the Process through effective use of the Toolbox
- Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status
- Utilise the HQMS System and apply the relevant and applicable standards / procedures to secure, maintain and enhance SHEQ compliance.
- Conduct regular scheduled audits as prescribed by the FRCP UME.
- Oversee and maintain correct fire risk standards within your area of responsibility and hold regular fire drills.
PEOPLE:
Supervise the team:
- Ensure enabling climate/culture
- Maintain labour stability
- Manage performance against set targets and competencies
- Ensure discipline is maintained
- Conduct recruitment interviews.
CUSTOMERS:
- Understand the trackless mining operational cycle and the effect of the trackless availability on the achievement of production targets.
- Apply systems and controls that will ensure that the trackless fleet is maintained:
o that will permit a safe and environmentally acceptable operation,
o to meet the required production-rated capacity at minimum life cycle
- Proactively seek ways of improving equipment reliability, planned maintenance, physical maintenance of the overall trackless fleet
- Conduct and distribute RCFA reports
- Conduct underground visits & inspections to ensure high degree of maintenance quality and effectiveness.
- Provide regular feedback wrt team actions and equipment performance to mining and maintenance personnel.
- Attend production review meetings / Report on equipment availabilities and downtime
- Key Customers: Mining and Engineering Supervisors, Trackless Artisans.
Operational:
- Ensure recognised and proper maintenance of the overall trackless fleet to obtain 85% availability.
- Ensure that the SAP PM data and work management meets Samancor Chrome standards at all times
- Monitor corrective maintenance workload vs available manpower
- Coach and mentor team members on effective trackless equipment maintenance management
- Create quality awareness and quality service awareness within the team
- Provide regular feedback to the Resident Engineer.
- Monitor and minimize overtime worked by team members
- Compile and submit monthly trackless performance report
- Maintain Yellow Machine Report
- Monitor and maintain HQMS procedures.
- Check uptime data, investigate where necessary and take corrective action
- Keep record of breakdowns, call-outs, spares usage, etc. for all trackless equipment.
- Become totally integrated into the mining team to provide a comprehensive trackless support service
- Ensure that relevant trackless equipment spares and adequate quantities are kept in stock, and devise action plan to handle emergency situations
- Establish a practical office management and filing system to promote good administration and record keeping.
- Prioritise and plan work within the team structure
- Compile preventative maintenance schedules on trackless equipment.
- Perform mean time between failures calculations and take steps to solve down-time problems
- Implement modifications / upgrades / major repairs according to procedures.
- Act as linage for the training department in the technical and behavioural training of all your subordinates.
- Provide specialist technical advice/assistance to mining and engineering team members.
Stand by:
- Perform senior stand by duties on designated areas from time to time
- Report any trackless equipment breakdowns which has the potential to or has resulted in a lost blast during call outs immediately to the Resident Engineer
- Provide specialized on-site assistance to trackless personnel if requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree or National Diploma or N5/N6
- Trade Certificate
- 4 years relevant trackless experience in Maintenance Department in a supervisory position
- Must have mining experience.
Additional qualifications:
- Relevant trackless equipment technical training.
Skills:
- Managing trackless performance against agreed criteria and KPIs
- Fault finding & problem solving on trackless equipment.
- Trackless workshop management.
Knowledge:
