- Maintain the safety of all systems and processes in the Isando Foundry.
- Implement world-class safety practices as guided by the Health and Safety department and senior management.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85: 1993).
- Adherence to all statutory HSE and housekeeping / 5S requirements
- Adhere to Duty of Care Policy at all times
- Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture
- Manage daily line output by effectively managing production loading and by successful implementation of systems to manage the age of WIP, flow through the plant, and determine root causes and countermeasures on misses
- Effective reporting at a senior level by providing feedback on the state of production
- Ensure continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to reduce waste and increase productivity.
- Maintain and improve Foundry throughput through machine utilization management, production routing, and Bill of Material control.
- Manage downtime and implement quick changeover processes
- Assist in maintaining the Foundry expense budget, including manning calculations, shift control, overtime control, and raw material costs
- Assist in managing production data i.e. routings, methods, data analysis etc
- Identification of subcontracting, outsourcing and insourcing requirements.
- Understanding economic batch sizes.
- Consistent application of JIT principles in production loading
- Maintain the integrity of the ISO 9001: 2008 quality assurance system within the Foundry, including product traceability.
- Implement and improve error-proofing and quality control systems to prevent defects from reaching the customer
- Demonstrate 100% commitment towards zero defects and process improvements
- Use 5-Why’s and A3 tools for scrap countermeasures and preventative measurements
- Use of velocity reports to manage lead time and aging
- Use of OTD reports to manage delivery
- Use of availability reports to manage delivery
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a foundry or manufacturing environment.
- At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven track record of implementing safety and quality assurance practices.
- Experience with ISO 9001: 2008 quality assurance systems.
- Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85: 1993) compliance.
- Experience in process improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
- Knowledge of budget management and resource allocation.
- Strong knowledge of SAP
- 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in production
- Exposure to and implementation of lean manufacturing
- Implementation and maintenance of the OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards
