Gauteng, Heidelberg We have an open vacancy for a Quality Manager to join the team at our Manufacturing Plant in Eskort - Heidelberg.

The QA Manager is responsible for ensuring that all pork processing and manufacturing activities comply with national and international food safety and quality standards. This role ensures the company adheres to applicable South African legislation and regulations, maintains certification standards, and continuously improves quality and safety processes throughout the value chain

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Management Systems (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC22000).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant South African food safety and quality legislation
  • Manage internal and external audits (DAFF, export markets, third-party certification bodies).
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for non-conformances.
  • Oversee microbiological and chemical testing programs to ensure product safety and compliance.
  • Train and supervise QA/QC staff to maintain a high standard of quality awareness across all departments.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and logistics teams to improve product consistency and quality.
  • Maintain traceability systems and manage product recall and withdrawal procedures.
  • Monitor performance indicators such as customer complaints, process deviations, and audit findings.



QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Degree in Microbiology or other relevant qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 year’s previous experience in a FMCG Production or Manufacturing environment, including managing Food Safety Systems and external audits.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics, data analysis, and statistical methods.
  • Good technical and IT skills.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Problem solving and people management skills.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

1. Quality Assurance
  • Constantly updating documents on new Food Safety standards, legislation, and or other requirements.
  • Acting as the Company’s Food Safety Coordinator (FSSC22000) and Hygiene Officer (Meat Safety Act).
  • Ensure continuous improvement on product Food Safety and product Quality.
  • Setting compliance specification of raw materials and finished products regarding Micro and Chemistry looking at relevant legislation.
  • Manage the Internal Audit processes and do problem solving to find root causes on Quality deviations.
  • Arrange Food Safety meetings and management review meetings.
  • Compiling of HACCP studies, process flow and processing procedures.
  • Decide for external audit and ensure requirements are met during audit.
  • Ensure that customer complaints are addressed, action is taken, and feedback is given to management.
2. Quality Controller
  • Managing all Quality and Laboratory staff including but not limited to discipline in the workplace, time keeping, and ensuring all personal hygiene checks are done before production begins.
  • Ensure staff follow Company SOP’s and policies.
  • Communicate to staff in morning meetings regarding issues brought to your attention during your meetings (for example customer complaints, production focus areas)
  • To ensure that all staff are always productive.
3. Laboratory
  • Design of documents, procedures, and reports for the Laboratory as and when required.
  • Managing budgets.
  • Ordering of lab consumables.
  • Lab results verification.
  • Ensure that each area is working to a recognized standard.
  • Ensure proficiency testing is done and logging and analysing of proficiency.
  • Typing COA’s as requested.
  • Ensure that products are tested according to the sampling plan.
  • Ensure that COA’s are available for export audits.
4. Implement and maintain 5S & Quantum Lean Methods
  • To be discussed in morning meetings.
  • Ensure all boards are updated.
  • Ensure suggestions are submitted.
  • Hold fishbowl meetings and small group activities, etc.
