Business Line Global Business Function Reporting Manager Head, Global Tax Position Purpose The AMEP Tax Lead assists the Head, Global Tax in the management of tax affairs for the AMEP Region and ensures compliance with the Group’s tax governance framework and internal control processes and accurate and timely compliance with all tax obligations of the countries in the AMEP region. This position provides expertise in all direct, indirect and Pillar 2 tax compliance and tax advisory services and prepares and reviews all tax effect accounting entries and tax reporting for statutory and internal reporting purposes for all entities and businesses in the AMEP region. In addition, this position partners with the business and Group stakeholders to advise on all projects, new business opportunities, including M & A, restructuring projects and liquidations, etc. in the AMEP region. The incumbent will role model the SJ Group values, ethics and code of conduct and ensure all business activities are carried out in accordance with these guiding principles Key Accountabilities
  • Ensure compliance with the Group’s tax governance framework and internal control processes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely compliance with all tax obligations of the countries in the AMEP region.
  • Manage/review the preparation and timely filing of tax returns (corporate income tax, GST/VAT, withholding taxes, Pillar 2, etc.) across the AMEP region, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve any tax audits, disputes, or inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Manage external advisors and work with the Finance and Group tax teams in BEPS implementation for the region (when implemented) and to ensure tax calculations and necessary filings are made on a timely basis.
  • Business partnering by advising from the tax perspective and leading the implementation of projects including restructuring, ETR planning projects, liquidations, new investments/acquisitions/ transactions/funding, ensuring the necessary returns are filed on a timely basis, tax journals are booked correctly, any necessary documentation such as SPA, valuation reports, are reviewed and prepared.
  • Periodic health checks for tax processes, payments, in respect of VAT, WHT and any tax reporting obligations and conduct periodic training to business/Finance stakeholders.
  • Preparing and reviewing the annual or quarterly tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, perform true up calculations where necessary and preparing/reviewing the statutory accounts and tax notes, board papers when necessary to reconcile and explain the countries’ ETR.

  • Ensures good health is maintained through safe work practices:
  • WHS risks associated with the local operations are understood and managed effectively.
  • Appropriate resources and processes are available within the AMEP Region for managing WHS effectively.
  • Information about WHS performance and incidents within the AMEP Region is reported and acted on in a timely way;
  • Company assurance processes to review and improve effectiveness of WHS management within the AMEP Region are supported.
  • Experience and Formal Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Preferably CA/CPA, gained in a corporate or international accounting firm, in a corporate tax specific function.
  • At least 15 years of experience working with complex corporate income tax issues, including CFC’s, tax consolidation, and foreign tax offsets in the AMEP region.
  • Experience liaising and working with external advisors, external auditors.
  • Experience in preparation of consolidated tax effect accounting and notes/disclosures for statutory and other reporting.
  • Experience in advising on and managing tax compliance, audits, current and deferred tax accounting and providing audit support in the AMEP region is a pre-requisite.
  • Very strong technical analysis skills; and very strong tax effect accounting skills.
  • Ability to analyse and communicate financial and tax information.
  • Demonstrates collaboration, accountability and leadership with and of external advisors and internal stakeholders.
  • Able to adapt own communication styles to the different audience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to show resilience under pressure whilst working towards tight timelines.
  • Possesses a growth mindset who embraces internal and external tax environment changes
  • Computer literacy - with a sound knowledge of excel based software and other MS office tools
