SCOPE OF WORK
We are seeking an Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper Intern to support our finance team in maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with reporting, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and donor regulations. The primary objective of this internship is to provide support in day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping functions, while offering the intern hands-on experience in non-profit financial management and international operations. This position will support financial operations for Senegal, South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.

SCOPE OF WORK
We are seeking an Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper Intern to support our finance team in maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with reporting, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and donor regulations. The primary objective of this internship is to provide support in day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping functions, while offering the intern hands-on experience in non-profit financial management and international operations. This position will support financial operations for Senegal, South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Assist in recording financial transactions using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or other platforms).
- Maintain and update general ledger entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Support monthly bank and account reconciliations.
- Assist in preparing financial reports, including donor reports, expense reports, and grant tracking.
- Organize and maintain digital financial files and documentation.
- Review and verify receipts, invoices, and expense reports submitted by program teams.
- Ensure proper coding and categorization of expenses based on organizational and donor requirements.
- Collaborate with field office staff to collect financial data and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with audit preparation and documentation gathering.
- Perform other administrative and finance-related tasks as assigned.
- Assist the SFOM in answering routine and non-routine inquiries about accounts payable.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Familiarity with basic accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience with or willingness to learn accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in international development and non-profit operations is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team across time zones.
