Senior Associate/Counsel (South Africa)

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa
The ideal candidate should possess at least 6-8 years of experience and will be tasked with the following responsibilities:
· Advising on transactions and projects within corporate commercial and finance practices, including but not limited to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructuring, capital markets, project finance, infrastructure and energy, banking, and financial services. Familiarity with South African regulatory frameworks is required.
· Providing strategic advice on regulatory and compliance matters, ensuring clients' businesses are aligned with current laws and regulations, and proactively identifying potential legal risks.
· Leading and managing domestic and cross-border deals, collaborating with multiple parties and navigating various legal systems to achieve successful outcomes.
· Collaborating and coordinating with other practice areas and CLG offices, working closely with leading experts and partners to offer integrated legal solutions.
· Mentoring and developing junior associates and trainees, fostering their professional growth. This includes guiding them on complex legal matters and helping build their technical and client-facing skills.
· Contributing to business development and knowledge management initiatives, ensuring the firm remains competitive by identifying new opportunities and staying ahead of legal trends.
Requirements:
· A law degree and qualification to practice law in South Africa with a minimum of 6-8 years of practical experience in corporate commercial, projects and finance legal practice, with an in-depth understanding of the South African market's complexities.
· Strong legal skills with a proven track record in managing complex transactions and regulatory matters.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly present legal advice to clients and colleagues, and to effectively negotiate on their behalf.
· Strong interpersonal abilities, including the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with clients and colleagues.
· A proactive and client-focused approach, with the ability to anticipate client needs, provide practical solutions, and navigate challenging legal landscapes.
