Roche DIA Cape Town invites applications for an exciting opportunity to join the Sequencing Assay Development team as a permanent Scientist II. You will join the Development department supporting Roche Diagnostics’ Sequencing portfolio. The Development department ensures quality, consistency, and operational efficiency through optimised and validated processes and test methods as well as through new product design and transfer.

The Position
Roche DIA Cape Town invites applications for an exciting opportunity to join the Sequencing Assay Development team as a permanent Scientist II. You will join the Development department supporting Roche Diagnostics’ Sequencing portfolio. The Development department ensures quality, consistency, and operational efficiency through optimised and validated processes and test methods as well as through new product design and transfer.
Your Opportunity
- Organise, conduct, and monitor laboratory experiments according to established and published procedures, as well as using technical and theoretical understanding.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems encountered during experimental procedures utilising scientific knowledge.
- Assume responsibility for the accuracy, quality, and timely completion of experimental outcomes. Able to summarise experimental results and review conclusions with supervisor/project leader. Communicate results of experiments
- Analyse, interpret, and record experimental data in a timely manner, according to established formats. Able to produce reports and documents, and present findings at internal meetings. Able to form conclusions, and provide insight into process improvements
- Plan and execute work independently with excellent time management to accomplish assigned objectives
- Proactively communicate with supervisor/project leader regarding key findings and critical problem areas.
- Participate in routine lab maintenance, lab safety, ISO, and QSR implementation
- Ensure work and processes are compliant with relevant safety (e.g., OSHA) and regulatory standards (e.g. ISO 13485:2016, GxP).
Qualifications And Educational Requirements
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent) is required, and an advanced degree (Honour’s or Master’s) in Biological/Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Genetics or a related field, is preferred
- Minimum 2 years’ (or equivalent) experience in a similar role is required. This includes experience in product development, biotechnology applications, molecular biology, technical manufacturing functions, or experience with NGS workflows
- Experience as a wet-lab scientist is required
- Knowledge of NGS applications or a proven molecular biology background will be beneficial and experience in NGS library preparation protocols will be an advantage.
- Should possess working knowledge of reagent/assay development and manufacturing processes in a health authority regulated environment
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to present at all functional levels
- A passion for teamwork and collaboration and a desire to actively contribute to your own personal knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve team goals
- Ideally you are action oriented and excited to find solutions to complex and constantly changing challenges
- Develops effective working relationships with stakeholders, peers, and partners while acknowledging and respecting others’ diverse perspectives
