A Database Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and performance monitoring of databases, ensuring data accessibility, security, and optimization. They handle routine backups, data recovery, and user access, with a foundational understanding of T-SQL for query management and basic development tasks
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain database systems, ensuring reliable operation and security.
- Perform routine data backups and implement recovery processes to safeguard data integrity.
- Monitor database performance, to identify and resolve issues, and optimize queries.
- Conduct daily health checks and system monitoring to detect and resolve performance bottlenecks proactively.
- Manage user access, roles, permissions, and implement basic security protocols to protect sensitive data.
- Write, execute, and troubleshoot T-SQL queries to support application data needs and ensure efficient query performance
- Collaborate with application developers to maintain database compatibility with evolving software requirements.
- Create and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and access protocols.
- Assist in the testing and implementation of new database features, patches, and version upgrades.
- Ensure databases comply with organizational policies, such as data retention and usage guidelines.
- Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 1-3 years of experience in database management or related IT role
- Certifications in a relevant database system (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data
- Proficiency in SQL and T-SQL for database querying, troubleshooting, and simple stored procedures.
- Experience with SQL Server
- Basic understanding of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Familiarity with database performance monitoring and optimization tools.
- Knowledge of data security practices, including access control and role-based permissions.
- Familiarity with database automation tools or scripts for routine tasks.
- Basic understanding of scripting languages, such as PowerShell or Python.
- Exposure to cloud databases (e.g., Azure SQL, Amazon RDS).
- Experience in database documentation practices and version control.
