WWF is the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organisation, with over 6 million supporters and a global network active in over 100 countries. WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by conserving the world's biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
WWF South Africa is a national office that is part of the WWF network. We are a local NGO that has worked for 50 years with the aim of inspiring all South Africans to live in harmony with nature, for the benefit of our country and the wellbeing of all our people. WWFs work is for nature, for you.
Our work is challenging and exciting and we love what we do. To join our team, you need to be brilliant at what you do, passionate, results-orientated and have a positive attitude.
Background
The role will be 70% allocated to the GEF8 Circular Solutions to Plastic Pollution national project. The project aims to reduce volumes of plastic waste generated and leaked into the environment through the implementation of strategic circular interventions upstream and midstream in the plastic packaging value chain in the food and beverage sector in South Africa.
WWF South Africa is the executing agency and is responsible for national project coordination and implementation together with project/implementation partners the GreenCape and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. The Implementing Agency of this project is the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) which is responsible for the overall project supervision, overseeing the project progress through the monitoring and evaluation of activities and progress reports and quality procedures. The national focal point is the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE).
The coordinator will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective operational functioning of the GEF8 National Project by supporting the WWF Project Management Unit.
With the remaining 30%-time allocation, the coordinator would also support the No Plastics in Nature initiative.
