To plan and prepare nutritious meals for the dredger crew and to ensure the safe and economical operation of the catering services function of the craftPosition Outputs

  • Plan meals for a 2 week period.
  • Draw up menu's.
  • Prepares meals (economically)Prepares mess room for meals.
  • Supervises and Cleans catering area, equipment, stores, and fridges.
  • Performs stock take & present requirement to Master.
  • Check deliveries (quantities & quality) and pack in stores.
  • Replenish stores items.
  • Safe stowage of Stores.
  • Supervises stewards.
  • Ensure hygienic conditions of catering areas.
  • Cleanliness and timekeeping
  • To prepare meals to ensure well-nourished crew
  • Meals have to be on time
  • Culture differences and religious beliefs have to be taken into account when meals are being prepared

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12
  • Efficient Cook Certificate of Competence
  • SAMSA medical certificate - valid
  • STCW compliant – ancillary courses
  • Minimum 6 months experience working in the relevant position (cook) onboard a vessel Or
  • Efficient Cook Certificate of Competence
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in the relevant position (cook) onboard a vessel
  • SAMSA medical certificate - valid
  • STCW compliant – ancillary coursesCompetenciesKnowledge:-
  • Principles of hygiene on a vessel.
  • Principles of hygiene in catering areas.
  • Literate in English.
