Main purpose of position

Currently we are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer in Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our Senior Civil Engineer you will manage, coordinate and evaluate all tasks and designs related to foundations, tower, road/crane pad and drainage aspects of wind projects in various stages of development, execution, and operations to various business units within the organisation. Support to engineering manager and managing junior to medium level engineers and draughtsmen.

Main Responsibilities

Support to Development Phase


  • Assist with topographical, geological, geotechnical, structural and hydrological due diligence tasks
  • Review of country specific project risks and constraints
  • Provide basic design/analysis of civil related infrastructure (roads, earthworks, drainage, foundations etc)
  • Quantifying civil quantities for the bill of quantities
  • Contribute to development of the civil engineering templates, tools and internal processes
  • Scoping of technical studies
  • Presence on site during development phase to assess site conditions and compile site specific checklists/presentations



Support to Structuring Phase of projects


  • Assist in basic and detailed design reviews
  • Conducting due diligence investigations on civil related packages to ensure risks and opportunities are identified to be implemented in the detail design
  • Support Supply Chain Management on compilation and evaluation of RFP documents (technical specifications and bill of quantities), then engaging with suppliers to clarity the responses
  • Support Execution Team with planning and alignment of technical aspects of the project
  • Ensure that all civil design information identified throughout the structuring phase is implemented in the detail designs
  • Presence on site during construction phase to solve any foreseen and unforeseen civil issues
  • Manage in Country Civil Engineering Supervisors and Junior Engineers
  • Support technical growth of site and junior engineers



Qualifications And Competencies


  • Professional Engineering Registration (or similar active CREA )
  • Design management of complex Civil infrastructure (foundations, drainage, roads and buildings)
  • Understanding of Resident Engineer management of complex Infrastructure projects
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Sound knowledge of CAD knowledge
  • 8+ years Civil engineering experience
  • 5+ years Wind energy experience
  • PV or Hydroelectric Power experience
  • Friction and end bearing Pile design experience
  • Culvert sizing and Channel design
  • Sound knowledge of SAP2000 (or similar numerical modelling software)
  • An excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Sound knowledge of GIS software
  • Language: fluent both written and spoken in English and Portuguese
  • Able to represent and sign projects on behalf of Scatec for civil engineer discipline in Latam region in consultation with Engineering Manager
  • Ideal: Sound knowledge of three of the following: (hydrogeological, Geotechnical, Structural or Roads/Pavement engineering)
  • Plaxis/Rocscience/Itasca/Prokon knowledge (or equivalent numerical and stress deformation analysis)
  • Experience of snow design and construction considerations



Would be advantageous:


  • Structural Analysis of tower, anchor cage and foundations
  • Slope stability and retaining wall analysis
  • Offshore structural/geotechnical design
  • Foundation design/Geotechnical Investigations or hydrological modelling/ drainage design experience
  • Roads/pavement or Structural design analysis and bending schedules
  • Hydrological analysis, culvert sizing and channel designPersonal characteristics
