Job Description

Supervise the workforce and the production process so that volume targets are met within budgeted costs.

Required outputs: functional

  • Analyses and resolve process, equipment and quality problems as quickly as possible to maintain production continuity
  • Keep production management and other supervisors informed of the status of the plant and any significant process or personal problems to avoid disruption and ensure smooth operation of the plant
  • Prepare and publish daily production reports
  • Ensure that all staff is trained and ready for any emergency i.e. fire and gas escape
  • Generate work orders and safe work permits for plant maintenance and in case of plant breakdowns.
  • Responsible and accountable for the effective leadership of the production shift team assigned to your area of responsibility
  • Manage and direct activities with a focus on creating a safe working environment through a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe practices and adherence to manufacturing best practices
  • Assume subordinate OHS Act responsibilities for the plant
  • Responsible for good housekeeping and safety standards on site
  • Responsible for all quality, safety, health and environmental incidents on shift in designated area
  • Planning the shift roster, Sets clear goals and standards for subordinates
  • Ensures that subordinates have the authority, tools and information required to do their jobs
  • Holds people accountable for their efforts and contribution and applies the necessary recognition and reward or discipline and censure
  • Monitor, and arrange for appropriate adjustments to key production plant parameters to ensure product integrity is maintained and quality standards met
  • Maintain good industrial relations, discipline and the morale of process operators and ensure that all operators are fully trained in process and safety procedures to promote a positive and safe work environment
  • Monitor and control safety systems to ensure safe working at all times

Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric / Grade 12 or NQF 4 with Mathematics and Science required
  • Chemical Engineering diploma – advantageous
  • Basic management skills i.e. planning, organizing, leading and controlling
  • Computer literacy – MS Word, MS Excel, Lotus Notes, SAP
  • Basic understanding of process plant and the importance of maintenance
  • Must be able to obtain health clearance to work in a chemical environment
  • Operational knowledge of the relevant legislation
  • Minimum 2 years in supervisory capacity

Minimum 5 years in chemical production environment
