Job Title: Human Capital (HC) Data Steward

Your mission is to design, build, and embed a modern data quality framework for our entire HC function. You will have the autonomy to define the processes, set the standards, and shape the future of how FNB manages its most sensitive and strategic data asset: our people data.

What Success Looks Like In Your First Year

We believe in tangible results. In your first 12 months, you will have made a significant impact by achieving the following:

  • Develop a strategic roadmap: After engaging with key HC and business stakeholders, you will deliver a formal HC Data Quality Roadmap that outlines key priorities, initiatives, and success metrics.
  • Create data clarity: You will create and maintain updated data inventory maps for our critical HC data assets, ensuring we know what data we have, where it lives, and who owns it.
  • Operationalise data governance: You will design and implement a formal data quality issue resolution process, complete with clear intake, triage, and escalation paths, ensuring queries are handled efficiently and effectively.

Core Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for HC data quality, definitions, and standards.
  • Define and document key HC metrics and data elements (e.g., Headcount, Attrition, Diversity) in our data catalogue.
  • Perform root cause analysis on data quality issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement lasting solutions.
  • Develop and monitor data quality rules and dashboards to proactively identify and address inconsistencies.
  • Maintain metadata, data quality rules, Enterprise Data Model (EDM), reference data, records register, where applicable.
  • Define information management requirements (e.g. data cleansing and data quality, etc.) and drive the implementation of the requirements within area of responsibility).
  • Ensure HC data handling processes comply with internal policies and the ever-changing global data privacy landscape (e.g., POPIA, GDPR).
  • Govern access to sensitive HC data, ensuring requests are properly vetted and approved.
  • Provide training and support to the HC community, promoting data literacy and best practices.

Essential Requirements (must-haves)

You will be an ideal candidate if you possess:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience working with HC data or HC information systems in a medium-to-large organisation.
  • 3-year College diploma (BTech) or university degree in the field of BCom, Informatics, information management/knowledge.
  • Solid understanding of HC data structures, processes, and typical challenges (e.g., payroll, performance, headcount, regulatory reporting).
  • Working knowledge of HC legislation and data privacy requirements.
  • Proven ability to ensure high-quality, reliable, and auditable HC data.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a track record of identifying and resolving data quality issues.
  • Excellent collaboration skills. Able to act as a bridge between HC teams, IT, and business partners.
  • Demonstrated integrity and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Experience in HC data reporting and analytics tools (Power BI, Excel, or similar).
  • Effective communicator. Comfortable training, documenting, and explaining data processes to HC users.
  • A continuous improvement mindset. Actively seeks ways to improve HC data processes and quality.

Preferred Qualifications (nice-to-haves)

  • Experience with Workday Human Capital Management
  • Prior involvement in an HC digital transformation or HC data migration project.
  • Exposure to data privacy impact assessments or HC process audits.
