MAIN PURPOSE:
The primary purpose of the Workshop Manager is to manage and oversee all workshop activities to ensure operational efficiency, quality of output, and compliance with company standards and legal requirements. This role involves leading a team of skilled tradespeople, coordinating with various departments, and maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality protocols. The Workshop Manager is crucial for achieving production targets, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring customer satisfaction.ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Incident Reporting and Communication
- Report any incidents/ accidents immediately to Operations manager.
- Ensure clear communication between Draftsman, Operations Manager, and workshop workforce daily.
Task Scheduling
- Compile work schedule in line with projects allocated by the PMO.
- Ensure completion of tasks as per work schedule.
- Manage team’s workload to maximize efficiency.
Quality Control and Compliance
- Handover project details to team and ensure the team understands drawings and expectations.
- Ensure adherence to Health and Safety standards.
- Carry out quality checks on all profiles being manufactured.
- Keep record of QC.
Process Improvement
Continuously seek ways to improve workshop processes
Issue and Risk Management
- Address and act on site complaints.
- Report any unsafe tools or machinery immediately.
- Keep the MD updated on any issues or potential risks.
General Conduct and Additional Duties
- Comply with the company's code of conduct.
- Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned from time-to-time by management.
Equipment and Workshop Maintenance
- Ensure all tools and equipment used are inspected daily.
- Ensure the workshop is clean at the end of the shift
Workforce Management
- Ensure the workforce wears the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Manage and control overtime worked.
- Hold regular meetings with the workforce regarding production, quality, and targets.
Expense and Loss Control
Mitigate and report all/ potential expenses and losses not accounted for.
COMPETENCIES & MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Working conditions
- Workshop and Field Work: Based in a workshop environment.
- Limited Travel: None, workshop based.
Disability status
- None: The role requires physical capabilities to perform inspections, quality checks, and to move around the workshop environment.
- Technical Certificate/Diploma: Matric/ N3/ Red Seal
- Strong Communication Skills: Particularly in English and Afrikaans, to clearly convey instructions and liaise between departments.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes: Including quality control, machinery operations, and safety protocols.
- Proficiency in Reading Technical Drawings: Essential for ensuring the correct manufacturing of products.
- Material Knowledge: Understand various types of materials used in manufacturing, their properties, and applications.
- Quality Control Skills: Experience in QC checks, including visual inspections and measurements.
- Minimum 3 Year’s Experience: In a Manager role within a manufacturing or workshop environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with Tools and Machinery: Used in the workshop for manufacturing and quality control.
