Job Advert Summary
The Construction Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all construction activities related to solar PV installations at commercial, industrial, and utility-scale sites. This role ensures that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards. The Construction Manager works closely with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to align execution with Solareff’s standards for sustainable, high-performance energy systems.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil/Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Registration with South African Council for the Project and Construction Management (SACPCMP).
- 5–8 years of experience in construction management, preferably in renewable energy or electrical infrastructure.
- Proven experience in managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, HSE regulations, and industry best practices.
- Experience working with EPC contracts and subcontractor management
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent leadership and team coordination skills.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Effective communication and reporting skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in MS Project, Excel, and construction management software.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote project sites.
- Willingness to work extended hours during critical project phases.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Execution
- Oversee all phases of construction from site handover to commissioning.
- Develop and manage detailed construction schedules in coordination with project managers and subcontractors.
- Ensure adherence to approved engineering designs and technical standards.
Site Management
- Lead site construction teams including site supervisors, subcontractors, and direct labour.
- Monitor on-site performance, productivity, and safety compliance.
- Conduct regular site visits and progress reviews.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure all construction activities are carried out in compliance with relevant OHSA regulations and Solareff’s Health and Safety policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce safety protocols.
- Promote a strong safety culture on site.
Quality Control & Assurance
- Implement quality control measures and inspections in line with project specifications.
- Manage snag lists and ensure resolution before handover.
Resource & Cost Management
- Forecast resource requirements and manage construction budgets.
- Verify subcontractor invoices and ensure alignment with scope and progress.
- Minimize rework and material wastage through proactive planning.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and internal teams to resolve site issues and align expectations.
- Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
