About the client: PSS has been mandated to hire a Commercial Head – South Africa for a fast-growing pharmaceutical organisation.
Job Purpose
The Commercial Head will be responsible for leading the Sales and Marketing functions for South Africa region. This role will focus on driving revenue growth, optimizing profitability, and executing commercial strategies that align with the company’s overall business objectives. The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering the Profit & Loss (P&L) for the South African business and will play a key role in shaping its commercial success.

Bachelor's in Science / Pharmacy and Master’s Degree in Marketing / International Business
Experience: -
15 to 20 years of experience within the South African market, in commercial roles with at least 5 to 8 years of department and people management experience.

The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering the Profit & Loss (P&L) for the South African business and will play a key role in shaping its commercial success.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the P&L responsibility for the South African business, ensuring revenue and profitability targets are met. Responsibility and Management of South Africa business revenue streams:
- Private Market = 70% contribution
- Supply business (3rd party sales) = 27% contribution
- State (government tender) = 3% contribution
- Strategic Management: Analyze the organization’s competitive position by considering market and industry trends, existing and potential customers, and strengths and weaknesses as compared to competitors.
- Sales management: Develop annual budgets, sales forecasts, and marketing plans in alignment with regional and global objectives. Manage sales operations flawlessly, including planning, budgeting, managing inventory, engaging key customers in the private market (retail chains, distributors, wholesalers, 3rd party partners, KOLs, HCPs), amongst others.
- Marketing leadership: Develop and execute marketing plans and commercial strategies to drive sales growth and market share in South Africa.
- New Product Launches: Ensure new product launch excellence and in-market product uptake to achieve targets by appropriately managing the marketing team and marketing strategy execution.
- Execution excellence: Demonstrate ownership for customer and organizational success. Hold teams and individuals accountable. Gain trust and respect for proactively driving results for assigned goals.
- People Management: Building a high-performing (engaged & motivated) team that delivers company objectives
- Market Intelligence & Compliance: Stay informed on market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes, ensuring the business remains competitive. Ensure all commercial activities comply with local regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
