Job Summary

We are looking for a results-driven, dynamic, and detail-oriented logistics professional to join our team in the role of Transportation Specialist. The Transportation Specialist will be responsible for daily interfaces between our internal customers and vendors. The position requires interaction with all functional departments of AJC, including 16 sales & operational regions. The ideal candidate should be dependable, have knowledge of the transportation industry, customer service skills, and should be a creative problem solver.

Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

  • Analyze our booked business reports. Work with Operations and Sales teams to identify the timeline for future shipments.
  • Identify best routing for the execution of our shipments based on product readiness, trucking, and ocean carrier’s services availability.
  • Address daily tactical issues with our internal customers and transportation vendors.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and performance. Offer ideas on how to implement positive changes.
  • Identify core business and key destinations for each of our transportation vendors to make the best match with our business.
  • Rate requests, negotiations, and management with our transportation vendors such as ocean carriers, trucking companies and freight forwarders.

Working hours



  • 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, International Business, or related field is required.
  • 1 - 2 years of experience in ocean transportation.
  • Knowledge of refrigerated transportation is preferred.
  • Advanced skills in MS Outlook, Excel and Oracle.
  • The ideal candidate should be proactive,

positive, energetic, and able to work on a dynamic international environment.

Language Requirements

  • Candidate is required to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Proficiency in a second language, especially Afrikaans or French, is preferred.
