Introduction
To conduct analysis of samples in the microbiological, analytical and organoleptic section according to laboratory systems, procedures and standards to ensure the provision of accurate, timeous, cost effective results to the Manufacturing Plants.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct analysis according to laboratory systems, procedures and standards, analyse samples and generate accurate, analytical & microbiological results, including out of range identification / reporting, according to methods, procedures, to meet manufacturing plants requirements.
- Track samples as they are moved through testing. Ensure communication with manufacturing plants regarding sample arrivals as well as sensory test schedules and samples still needed to complete sensory sessions.
- Product analysis according to approved procedures (microbiological, analytical, organoleptic, and physical parameters) per the product specification and to determine their fitness for use.
- Participating in the ongoing development of Laboratory Quality Systems by participating in proficiency testing schemes.
- Prepare samples for shipment to outside contract laboratory for microbiological or Chemistry testing.
- Timely reporting of any laboratory quality deviations and non-conformances to laboratory Team Leader or Laboratory Manager and take immediate correction.
- Ensure verification of laboratory equipment (Incubators & Refrigerators, Balances, pH meter, Autoclaves, Viscometer, Refractometer, and Micropipettes etc.)
- Assist in writing and reviewing SOPs, Validation Protocols, Quality Protocols, test methods, and specifications for all Analytical methods.
- Maintain GLP (good laboratory practices) & GDP (good documentation practices) in the analytical, microbiology laboratories and test kitchen in order to adhere to SOPs, quality, compliance and applicable regulations.
- Conduct Reagents inventory for all Analytical consumables.
- Keep track of and store all reference materials and or QC's to ensure validity of analytical results.
- Conduct environmental monitoring of the laboratory to ensure validity of results.
- Supervise laboratory Junior or in-service trainees on laboratory activities.
- Ensure maintenance of laboratory calibration schedule for Microbiological, Analytical and Kitchen equipment's.
- Assist NPD in developments of new products specifications and results trending.
- Analyse, review, approve and enter analytical results on LIMS and send of non-conformances.
- Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process (TQM).
- Undertake additional general laboratory support functions.
- Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
- National Diploma in Microbiology/Food/Biotechnology or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in Quality Control Laboratory.
- Good working knowledge of requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 Management system.
- Ability to use a Laboratory Information Management System.
- Proven ability to conduct relevant analytical procedures in accordance with recognized methods.
- Must have strong analytical ability.
- Ability to pay attention to detail.
- Systematic, organised, high energy and result driven.
- Must have good interpersonal and relations management skills, a team player.
- Adaptable and show initiative to develop further and remain in the forefront of technology.
- Ability to work extended hours as and when required.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision.
