Our client in the consulting engineering sector is seeking a qualified Structural Engineer/Technologist to join their Cape Town office. The role involves providing structural engineering support on multidisciplinary projects, including design, construction supervision, reporting, and coordination. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of infrastructure, commercial, and residential developments and will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Technical Duties
Our client in the consulting engineering sector is seeking a qualified Structural Engineer/Technologist to join their Cape Town office. The role involves providing structural engineering support on multidisciplinary projects, including design, construction supervision, reporting, and coordination. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of infrastructure, commercial, and residential developments and will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Technical Duties
- Execute structural designs, specifications, and costing as directed
- Prepare high-quality technical reports and project documentation
- Present technical work to clients and stakeholders when required
- Perform structural assessments and site inspections for design compliance
- Review contractor claims, variation orders, and site documentation
- Draft and support the implementation of Works Authorisations
- Provide technical input and coordination across departments and disciplines
- Manage and guide Technicians/Draughtsmen on project-specific tasks
- Allocate work efficiently and ensure adherence to budgets and timelines
- Ensure project quality assurance from concept to close-out
- Assist in compiling responses to project bids and technical proposals
- Support project controls, including verification of subconsultant invoices
- Work across multiple projects simultaneously
- Train and support junior staff in software and technical standards
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and ensure satisfaction
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and regional initiatives
- Engage in ongoing professional development and progress towards ECSA registration
- BSc or BTech in Civil Engineering (Structural) from a recognised institution
- Registration as Candidate with ECSA
- Must have 5-7 years' experience in structural engineering, design, and supervision
- Proficient in structural design of reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, and timber
- Software skills: AutoCAD (required), Revit, Tekla Structures
- Knowledge of structural analysis/design tools (Prokon, Etabs, SAFE, Frame, Tekla Designer) will be advantageous.
- Experience with structural inspections and construction supervision
