Unix Administrator

Our client in the IT Sector requires a suitable Unix Administrator on a 6–12-month contract who has a strong technical background and a fast leaner.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for UNIX administration with Hardware fixes for servers in Data-center (Exadata, VMs, Individual servers)
- Identifies risks associated with the Environment build up and takes preventative action to ensure requirements, quality and timelines are achieved
- Uses the agreed Environments Tools to produce all deliverables, results and defects.
- Install software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts with help of monitoring tools.
- System failure analysis and recovery; insuring the consistency and integrity of file systems
- Hardware/software configuration; and management
- Liaison with client / vendor personnel
- Technical support and general troubleshooting
- Manage and lead hardware and software migration and upgrade efforts of varying
Must have following skills
Technical Competencies include
- Unix System Administrator, to help manage Prod & pre-prod environment servers running Linux, Solaris and IBM-AIX operating systems.
- Administration experience (tools, command, shell development)
- Multiprocess/multithread applications experience
- Application Server experience (Forte`, BEA weblogic, jBoss)
- In-depth knowledge of Solaris, Linux, Apache and SAN systems maintenance experience in a Unix data Center environment
- Strong experience with system management tools, logical file systems, and client/server environments.
- In-depth hardware configuration knowledge & expertise in Telecom Domain
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrated initiative, customer orientation and team work competencies
- Ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical people
- Knowledge of Oracle, RMAN, Veritas NetBackup, IBM Tivoli, Nagios.
Essential Experience
Main Operating Systems:
o Linux (Redhat & OEL)
o IBM-AIX
Main Volume Management/File system:
o Solaris SDS and ZFS
o Veritas
o LVM
o EXT3
o AIX LVM
Hands on experience in following activities.
· Backups and purging on request of the project,
· Monitor usage of environments,
· Supplying support throughout the test execution, including out of hours working if required.
· Shell programming
Qualifications
• Relevant IT/Engineering Degree
• Relevant certifications
Technical / Professional Expertise
• Strong technological background, with any background.
• 6 to 8 years’ experience UNIX Administration
• Hands on experience in Cluster & Volume management.
• Build experience with virtualisation techniques.
