Get to Know Us

With over 190 years of maritime experience, Svitzer is a global leader in towage and marine services. But it’s not just about what happens on the water - our shore-based teams keep everything running smoothly. In every port across Australia and Papua New Guinea, our shore teams play a vital role in safe, efficient operations. When you join Svitzer, you join a team built on trust, purpose, and a commitment to doing things right.

Do you have a passion for Maritime Operations? If so, we’re looking for an Operations Assistant to join our team in Port Botany on a permanent basis.

Why You’ll Want to Join Us

This is a hands-on leadership role at the centre of our operations - where your ability to coordinate crews, manage day-to-day schedules, and respond to operational challenges will make a real difference. You’ll be the go-to for ensuring vessels are resourced, supported, and running to plan. Working alongside the Port Manager and leading the frontline, you’ll step up as a key leader, helping shape a safe, reliable, and high-performing operation across our NSW ports.

This role is perfect for someone who is highly organised, prides themselves on being a reliable support for the team, and can easily build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders alike.

How You’ll Make a Difference

Reporting to the Port Manager your key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the main point of contact for crew regarding operational administration and general support.
  • Monitoring and maintaining compliance with crew certifications, inductions, and training requirements.
  • Supporting the onboarding of new crew, including arranging PPE, and verifying completion of all required inductions and documentation for site access.
  • Managing site vehicle needs, including novated lease arrangements and fuel card coordination.
  • Preparing and reviewing crew timesheets to support accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Scheduling and coordinating meetings, events, and site visits for operational staff and stakeholders.
  • Maintaining stock levels of office supplies, stationery, and other operational support materials.
  • Processing purchase orders and ensuring accurate invoice coding and tracking.

What You’ll Bring

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Previous experience in administrative or operational support roles – experience in resource or crew scheduling is an advantage, as is familiarity with the maritime industry
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and stay focused in a fast-paced environment
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy across all aspects of your work
  • Confidence in interpreting and following operational procedures and processes
  • A personable, approachable nature – you enjoy building relationships and supporting a cohesive, collaborative team environment
  • Solid computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office and business systems – exposure to platforms like Workday, Sertica, or accounting programs will be highly regarded
  • The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and a commitment to contributing to a safe and efficient workplace

We are proud of our diversity and see it as a genuine source of strength for building high performing teams.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that members from some under-represented groups are less likely to apply for jobs if they don’t meet every single qualification. At Svitzer we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles, and we are excited about hearing from you!
