Job Description

  • Oversee, troubleshoot & operate distillation, hydrolysis & utilities.
  • The SPC is responsible to supervise the entire team and is the responsible site representative afterhours.
  • Maximise distillation production yields & optimise daily water & energy usage.
  • Start-up boilers and thermal hot-oil furnaces from cold, inspect all boiler and thermal heater ancillary equipment before start-up.
  • Conduct water treatment for boilers, record and action adjustments accordingly for out of specification process variable(s).
  • Operate and conduct water testing on demineralisation and softener plants and record analysis; also conduct chemical(s) adjustments accordingly.
  • Operate the Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit, conduct effluent water testing, also action chemical(s) adjustments according to an off specification process variable(s).
  • Facilitate and discuss safety talks with the production team.
  • Provide a strong focus on monitoring and improving plant efficiencies and waste minimisation.
  • Supervise and direct activities with a focus on creating a safe working environment through a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe practices and conditions and by adherence to Manufacturing Best Practice.
  • Conduct water treatment on cooling water system, record results and action chemical(s) adjustments when required.
  • Demonstrate strong SHE & PSM attributes in the manufacturing and support processes.
  • Ability to adequately respond and attend to emergencies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • NQF 4 Chemical Operations
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operating a distillation and fractionation plant.
  • Sound knowledge and practical experience on the operation of boilers, thermal heaters, air compressors, steam ejector vacuum systems, etc.
  • Demonstration of strong SHE & PSM leadership qualities in previous positions.
