Job Description
To plan, design, develop, and manufacture innovative food products and technologies using a research-driven process. Responsible for performing investigations, testing, modelling, verifications, comparative analysis, and other forms of research to make informed recommendations. To support and guide Nando’s Feitoria in making informed decisions based on this data, which is then used to develop action plans for designing and implementing systems and products that supports key objectives. They also play an active role in strategic planning by providing ongoing research-based input and advice.
Minimum Requirements
- B-Tech/ Advanced Diploma in Food Technology, Biotechnology, or related field.
- HACCP training
- 7 years’ experience in a similar role in a manufacturing industry with high quality standards.
- 7 years’ working experience in food products development including a hands-on technical leadership role.
- 7 years’ excellent proven project leadership experience
- Proven knowledge and experience of scientific testing techniques
- Ability to interpret results of analytical and microbiological testing.
- Effective leadership skills and the ability to promote good relations with all aspects of the business.
- Strong knowledge of food product applications formulation and problem solving
Duties and Responsibilities
Process Management:
- Project manage and execute stages of the product development process from concept to launch to support business goals.
- Support in the execution of shelf-life testing and reporting.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in product development to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
- Assist in product optimization, including manufacturing and R&D procedures.
- Creation and/or updating and maintenance of provisional and finished product specifications.
- On-going review of labels and specifications
- Prepare and contribute technical documents. I.e. work instructions, SOP’s, and records.
- Oversee purchasing of R&D test equipment and other lab supplies.
- Conduct internal audits.
- Monthly project reporting
Collaboration:
- Support business to hire and develop R&D personnel.
- Establish project goals and priorities by collaborating with supply chain and Operations.
- Suggest training tools to enhance employee performance and skill development.
- Monitor team metrics and objectives ensuring meeting of goals.
- Actively lead in team engagement action planning and implementation.
- Help organize and participate in field trials as required.
- Work closely with internal product teams to understand and address their requirements.
Research and Development:
- Develop research programs incorporating current developments to improve existing products and study the potential of new products.
- Understand customer expectations on to-be manufactured products.
- Determine and execute improved technologies used by suppliers, competitors, and customers.
- Research, design, and evaluate materials, assemblies, processes, and equipment.
- Document all phases of research and development.
- Oversee complex research projects, analyse results, and provide recommendations based on findings.
- Assess the scope of research projects and ensure they are on time and within budget.
- Attending industry conferences on research topics of interest.
