PURPOSE STATEMENT
To perform, coordinate and support the Occupational Health functions as set out in the integrated Occupational Health programmes/plan in order to continuously achieve and maintain the optimal state of physical and psychological wellbeing of SABS employees.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Diploma + Advanced Diploma / B-Degree in Nursing, Occupational Health or a related field (NQF Level 7).
- Must be a Registered Nurse: General & Midwifery
- Medical Dispensing License is essential.
- Certificate: Audiometry is essential.
- Certificate: Audiometry is essential.
Work Experiance
- 8 years relevant work experience in Nursing and/or occupational health
- 4 years specialist experience
- Proven track record in providing medical and nursing care to individuals
Duties and Responsibilities
Functional Management
- Perform and coordinate the Medical Surveillance scheduling and translate service delivery specifications into risk priorities
- Implement preventative health / early detection of disease programmes and initiatives.
- Perform pre-placement, periodic, transfer and exit medical screening as well as biological hygiene monitoring as required
- Execute medical surveillance and interpret the report’s findings as required
- Identify and manage interventions to address non-compliance medical surveillance scheduling
- Provide quality occupational health treatment by applying appropriate treatment guidelines in dealing with various probabilities
- Provide general health and safety education to employees.
- Provide counseling (e.g., preventative, HIV/AIDS, emotional, trauma, COVID-19, etc.) as required and within scope of practice
- Conduct day-to-day treatment of sick or injured employees and case management of Occupational injuries and disease (COIDA)and OHSA.
- Monitor chronic and acute illnesses especially high-risk employees who have existing conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Epilepsy, etc.
- Make, monitor and follow-up on referrals to E.A.P., hospitals, GP’s, Specialists, DoL, etc. as required.
- Implement Medical Programmes in accordance to SHE policies and statutory requirements
- Provide rehabilitation of injured and/or sick employees as necessary and within scope of practice.
- Follow up on sick notes with medical professionals, if requested.
- Implement the SHE risk based approach to manage/mitigate of undesirable events and controls
- Organize an effective first-aid service during working hours.
- Ensure and inspect first-aid boxes and replace/order stock as required.
- Ensure adequate and appropriate first-aid boxes are available in all departments as well as regional offices.
- Consult with health care providers regarding treatment protocols, practices, programmes, etc.
- Coordinate medical practitioners and EAP therapist visits to SABS.
- Conduct occupational health inspection walks-abouts throughout the buildings
- Conduct occupational health risk assessments
- Coordinate Occupation Health Programmes (e.g., HIV/AIDS Days, Wellness Days, HIV/AIDS programmes, etc.)
- Assist in registering on to HIV/AIDS Disease Management Programmes with Medical Aid Schemes
- Ensure control of registers of drugs kept, issued and disposed of.
- Identify all expired stock and medical waste and ensure appropriate disposal thereof.
- Identify, monitor and keep records of exposure to hazardous substances and implement solution based recommendations.
- Compile medical attendance reports (e.g., weekly, monthly,quarterly) and annual clinic attendance, examination and referral statistics as well as other reports as required
- Provide support to the Health, Safety and Environment team (e.g., SHE inductions, health audits, toolbox talks, medical emergency planning, incident investigations, etc.) as required
Risk and Compliance Management
- Assist in identifying and adhering to fraud controls, risk prevention principles, sound governance and compliance
- processes, and tools to identify and manage risks
- Support and provide evidence to all internal and external audit and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain quality risk management standards in line with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and enforce all related Service Level Agreements to minimise business risk and ensure business continuity.
- Adhere to all relevant laws, policies and Standard Operating Procedures throughout the organisation.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships (e.g., SHE professional forums, etc.) for the purpose of expectations management, knowledge sharing and integration, and to manage the organisation’s reputation.
- Represent and participate in the organisation’s committees and tasks teams when required.
- Convene and attend meetings and present relevant information stakeholders when required.
- Ensure the provision of excellent customer service.
- Resolve queries and problems within span of control and within agreed time frames.
- Follow up on unresolved queries and complaints where required.
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders regarding follow-up of information, as required for tender requests.
- Provide subject-matter advocacy and expertise to all relevant stakeholders.
