The kind of work you will be part of 


The Data Analyst role at Siyavula Foundation is crucial for leveraging user, product, business, marketing, and socio-economic data to inform strategic decisions and improve the learning platform for mathematics, physics, and chemistry students. This role involves gathering, analyzing, and presenting data to enhance user experience, optimize product features, track usage, understand market trends, and measure our impact. The role requires collaboration with all teams for exection.


What we are looking for


We are looking for an Analyst with 3-5 years experience who understands data as a strategic asset - how data plays a role in the big picture of product development. They’re curious enough to dig deeper, have a point of view and who leverages data to drive business and social impact. 


Required Skills


  • A solid foundation in statistics and practical experience with statistical software.
  • Advanced proficiency of SQL, SQLAlchemy, Python, and Jupyter Notebooks (particularly pandas).
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or Matplotlib/Seaborn.
  • Strong analytical abilities to compile, structure, examine, and present data sets with precision and clarity.
  • Able to critically evaluate data to derive meaningful and actionable insights.
  • Strong data storytelling skills—able to simplify complex data insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience designing interactive dashboards that enhance decision-making and usability.
  • Good report writing and communication skills.
  • A high level of attention to detail and an ability to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Good problem solving skills to optimise data processes and reporting.
  • High ethical integrity – ensuring privacy, data security, and the ethical use of data in their analyses.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a comparable discipline is preferred.
  • Prior experience in data analysis or a related field is advantageous.


Roles & Responsibilities


  • Ensure data quality by identifying and addressing data inconsistencies and errors.
  • Clean data and carefully check reports and outputs for accuracy.
  • Gather and process data from various sources, both internal and external, including databases, spreadsheets, and APIs.
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager to develop and maintain a system for collecting and analyzing qualitative data (e.g., user feedback, teacher testimonials) to complement quantitative findings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives, identify key metrics, and provide for their reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with the Product team to ensure the database is functioning properly
  • Create useful reports for both internal teams – often sent to external clients – and the siyavula.com website.
  • Develop reports specifically for funders that highlight key impact metrics related to student learning outcomes, engagement, and equity.
  • Align with the Product Manager to prioritise organisational needs, and support business units, and programmes.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards that provide real-time insights for key stakeholders.
  • Use data visualization best practices to ensure dashboards effectively communicate trends and patterns.
  • Create and maintain processes for generating accurate reports, and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies.
  • Apply statistical techniques to understand data distributions and relationships.
  • Adhere to data governance practices and maintain data integrity.
  • Utilise data analytics tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, Pandas, SQL).


Common day-to-day tasks


  • Run weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for all key stakeholders.
  • Create new data reports on request from the various other business units.
  • Investigate the efficacy A/B tests run on the site.
  • Create and maintain data sandbox reports (and other reports that live on the site).
