Production Technician


Job Purpose:

  • Maintaining the plant to keep production levels and equipment availability at an optimum level
  • Maintaining autonomous maintenance in the plant and the first response before escalating to maintenance
  • Plant Automation & digitalization support
  • Back up to shift leads

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure multiple activities are executed accurately, to Bayer’s high standards and in time as planned by Maintenance Planner.
  • Train operators and follow correct procedures, safety codes and LOTO
  • Provide and ensure supervision and assistance of contractors in the plants
  • Conduct general building repairs and maintenance inspections and raise Job notifications
  • Upskill operators on autonomous maintenance and maintain interval service schedules for all production units
  • Liquids Formulation & filling, as well as Solids plant
  • Seek continuous growth/learning opportunities to further own skills and knowledge.
  • Provide technical and organizational co-ordination and control of user defined maintenance repairs and service activities at the plant/site in line with plans developed by Plant Engineer and Maintenance Planner in accordance with Bayer best practices.
  • Manage maintenance and production schedules, related to production plants
  • Be the link between production and maintenance, by following all job card from start to end
    Have specialist knowledge of:
  • General machinery and equipment
  • Digital Networks (support IT Production with IT related topics and training on new systems)
  • Basic automation
  • Lean tools and systems
  • Autonomous Maintenance
  • Responds to emergency problems in the plant and makes emergency repairs as needed (call out and standby)
  • Assist with shutdown planning and in conjunction with the maintenance department.
  • Makes recommendations for modification or improvement of preventive maintenance systems.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Artisan with Matric and Engineering qualification in electrical or mechanical as artisan.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in electrical/mechanical maintenance, repairs and installations
  • Knowledge doing faultfinding on multidisciplinary systems
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the type of machinery he/she is required to work on it.
  • Perform Autonomous Maintenance in the Production Units
  • Upskill operators in minor autonomous maintenance and set-up of machines
  • Responsible for ensuring all Production Job Cards, are executed, within the required timelines
  • Experience in Manufacturing- and Plant Automation systems including software skills in areas such as MES,
  • SCADA, PLC, etc. Will be advantageous
