Superintendent Geology Drilling (2-Year Fixed Term Contract) - Mining Technical – Geology Drilling

The role is responsible for Raise bore drilling, blind bore drilling and other drilling contractors. The incumbent will ensure that the drilling contractors have sufficient resources, skills, direction as to execute the drilling work safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Maintaining SHEQ standards and procedures with regards to drilling and Contractors.
• Monitoring SHEQ by means of site visits and weekly SHEQ meetings.
• Overseeing performance of Contractors
• Daily feedback sessions with contractors, monitoring of procedures and drilling progress.
• Conducting formal audits of drill contractors ensuring compliance to PC procedures and quality standards and Industry best practice.
• Planning, executing and designing drilling schedules.
• Ensuring contractor stay within schedule by means of daily contractor meetings and site inspections, planning and coordinating future projects.
• Preparing reports on development performance indicators for daily, weekly, and monthly plans.
• Processing analysis and management:
• Data Capturing, analysing and interpretation of drilling data to report on drilling progress and performance.
• Compliance to monthly and weekly planning schedules.
• Percentage scheduled work, scheduled vs. unscheduled work completed, analysis of non-productive work.
• Optimizing equipment maintenance and utilization by means of inspections and feedback sessions, coordinating the movement of contractors and drilling equipment from site to site as well as within Mining Operations, liaison with mine and project personnel, coordinating site preparation and rehabilitation.
• Cost controlling and budgeting.
• Ensuring drilling costs stay within allocated budget, by means of data interpretation and drilling monitoring.
• Liaising with internal or external resources to resolve drilling issues.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Tertiary qualification in Geology or Mining Engineering.
• Post-graduate qualification (Advantageous)
• Knowledge of drilling processes and how drilling machines operate will be advantageous.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in leadership role.
• Previous experience in management of contractors.
• Raise bore or related drilling experience advantageous.
• Experience in exploration or /mine expansion drilling advantageous.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Understanding and applying the Total Project Controls Management processes, through experience and expertise to all aspects of cost and schedule of a project.
