Engineering Manager- 2 Year Fixed Term Contract
You will be leading the engineering function as part of an integrated team. The role reports to the Rio Tinto Project Director with functional reporting to Rio Tinto’s Engineering Management Lead.

You will be leading the engineering function as part of an integrated team. The role reports to the Rio Tinto Project Director with functional reporting to Rio Tinto’s Engineering Management Lead.
Key accountabilities of the role are
- Apply disciplined Engineering Management governance in accordance with ’s project delivery framework
- Robust management of the technical integrity of the engineering design with access to subject matter experts and 3rd parties
- Review of key deliverables and proactive engagement in reviews and workshops, taking a value-based approach to achieving project objectives and requirements
- Ensure technical and safety in design risk / opportunity assessments are comprehensive, mitigated, documented and understood
- Oversee the engineering design to ensure it meets the environmental, social, and governance criteria and commitments
- Management of interfaces with Owner’s team members, facilitating a relationship of constructive collaboration to achieve business objectives
- Monitor and manage the performance of engineering service providers to deliver to plan and budget, prioritised to meet the construction schedule
- Leadership in line with Rio Tinto values and project objectives with a Zero Harm approach
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline, Honours will be advantageous
- Professional Registration with ECSA (Pr.Eng) or equivalent (or eligibility to register) will be advantageous
- 15+ years of relevant experience in Engineering Management, preferably on major mining projects (>$300M), particularly in South Africa or similar contexts
- Experience in Mineral Sands operations, including dry mining and tailings systems
- Proven ability to work across functions and geographies in a matrixed team environment
- A commitment to safe, ethical, and sustainable project delivery
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence and build trust
