Stanchion Payments is hiring a Product Manager in Cape Town or Johannesburg. Lead the full product lifecycle in the fintech and payments space, driving strategy, innovation, and delivery across global markets.


This role is responsible for guiding the development of software products from conception to launch (i.e. product strategy, stakeholder collaboration, requirements gathering, product lifecycle management and data-driven decision making). The job incumbent acts as the bridge between business, technology, and user experience teams to ensure the product delivers value to customers and aligns with business goals.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collate ideas and concepts on which you can initially define and thereafter revise the product vision, associated strategies on a quarterly basis.
  • Follow Lean Methodology where possible and identify assumptions, test hypothesis through constructed experiments based on well-constructed minimum success criteria etc
  • Collaborate with the CPO and other executives, to ensure the product vision align and contribute to delivery on Stanchion’s strategy (e.g. recurring revenue focus)
  • Equally define a market analysis process and report (industry and competitive) and revise and present on quarterly basis
  • Define a pricing strategy from market analysis, value proposition and long-term pricing principles along with, market-price testing procedures and negotiations with regional MD’s (internal customers)
  • Define volume predictions and show how the assumptions are logically constructed from the many opportunities and constraints
  • Define the costs required to stage all aspects of the lifecycle (development to steady state) over the business plan
  • From the pricing, volume and cost parameters, construct a business plan for each product and work with the CPO and Financial Director to ensure it fits within the capital constraints of the business and returns a competitive internal rate of return in comparison to the other products in the business or other investment opportunities for the company.
  • Construct and manage the product roadmap and ensure stakeholders are aware of product milestones.
  • Project manage in collaboration with BA and oversee the product plan, design, development, testing, launch, quality, customer satisfaction and return on investment of Stanchion’s business to business product/s ensuring an internal rate of return as targeted in the product business plan.
  • Work with and ensure communication between stakeholders (e.g. users, legal, marketing, executives and engineers) to co-ordinate and deliver on the product vision and specification.
  • Establish implementation capabilities for your products by training Global Operations integration and implementations teams and managing project success criteria to ensure implementation does not tarnish your products brand.
  • Establish steady state management capabilities for your products including quality control and support and maintenance enablement
  • Construct agreements (licence/subscription/other) which govern the terms of use and protect the customer and Stanchion from liabilities and risks.
  • Provide clear success criteria and establish relevant metrics and signals in Stanchion Product around: Growth & Activation, Engagement, Retention, User Happiness/Satisfaction, Quality and Revenue
  • Prepare accurate and relevant operational reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis that support Stanchions standard product management procedures
  • Managing the profit and loss (P&L) of the products. This includes cost management and commercial focus
  • Reviewing and approving pricing proposals and working with finance to ensure billing is set up correctly
  • Monitoring support and improving quality of the product to reduce incidents and reduce the costs of providing support

Knowledge Requirements:

  • The successful candidate requires knowledge of the payments industry, with an understanding of global trends and new technology in this industry.
  • Ability to manage all stage of the product lifecycle (conception, plan, development, iteration, launch, steady state, maintenance and kill)
  • Knowledge and experience of Lean methodology and how to work with assumptions, hypothesis, minimum criteria for success, minimum viable products experiments etc.
  • Knowledge and experience of Agile and Waterfall development cycles and how to maximise delivery
  • Experience in customer development from product management perspective with skills in exploratory, validation, customers satisfaction and efficiency interviews.
  • Strong business plan construction skills and strong presentation skills e.g. to Client, Exco and Board audiences
  • Knowledge of how to construct (incl signal sourcing i.e. data) and measure product management performance metrics
  • Ability to interact with multiple different departments within an organisation and to shape the products vision within the business.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing products

Preferred Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience in product management in payments and financial technology.
  • Commercial acumen and experience in pricing product and participating in RFP/Tender processes.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Product Management qualification
