Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the unit to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient team performance. This includes managing clinical and administrative staff, guiding training and development, overseeing budgets, and promoting cost-effective practices and stakeholder collaboration.

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A B.Cur or Diploma in General Nursing, along with a recognised Diploma or Degree in Operating Room Nursing.
  • A formal Nursing Administration qualification.
  • Proven scrub experience across key disciplines: Ophthalmic, Gynaecology, ENT, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Maxillofacial - essential.
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • A valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
  • Additional qualifications in Risk Management, Occupational Health, or Infection Control will be advantageous.
  • A Business Management qualification, as well as updated ACLS, PALS, or ATLS certifications, will be highly regarded.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a managerial or supervisory role, or previous experience as an Acting Unit Manager.
  • Prior experience in the private hospital sector will be a distinct advantage.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Lead, organise and oversee daily theatre operations while ensuring alignment with clinical standards.
  • Champion quality assurance by developing and managing the SHERQ plan and compliance roadmap.
  • Drive continuous improvement and safety through accurate risk reporting and regulatory adherence.
  • Coordinate and implement hospital policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
  • Liaise with HR to develop training and development plans that meet audit and DOH requirements.
  • Manage staff performance across theatre teams and ensure optimal resource planning.
  • Facilitate theatre lists, ensure readiness of surgical equipment and manage stock efficiently.
  • Monitor patient and environmental safety, conducting regular checks and taking corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate reporting for incident investigations and compliance with COID standards.
  • Build collaborative relationships with doctors, departments, and key hospital stakeholders.
