Purpose
The position will support the Officer Student Development to nurture and develop the musical talent of students through choral music by performing at university events and competing at musical festivals.

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12.
  • Music qualification will be an added advantage.
Recommendation
  • Diploma in Music /Bachelor of Music Degree with specialisation in choral conducting or related field such as music education and performance.
  • Must have experience in conducting amateur choirs.
  • A proven track record with various choral competitions.
  • Read and teach music.
  • Have experience in organizing traditional and contemporary styles of music.
  • Be available to do afternoon rehearsals as well as occasional morning and evening performances, and weekend workshops and camps.
  • Computer literate.
  • Have experience in mentoring and developing music leadership gifts in others.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular rehearsals to prepare amateur choir to perform at university events and graduations.
  • Prepare amateur choir to compete at music events, such as festivals and competitions.
  • Develop choral repertoire of songs.
  • Plan, lead and coordinate with choirs, praise teams and instrumental groups weekly rehearsals.
  • Recruit new members for the choir.
  • Assist and work closely with the IT team regarding all audio and visual needs of the choir.
  • Report to the Officer: Student.
  • Development on conditions and needs for the maintenance of musical equipment.
  • Arrange for the purchase and maintenance of music supplies, upon approval by Dean: Student Affairs.
  • Assist with finding substitute musicians when not personally available.
  • Work within the University policies and procedures.
  • Be on time for all performance events.
