Job Overview:
The ENG Camera Operator and Video Journalist/Editor is responsible for capturing high-quality video footage and editing news stories for broadcast and digital platforms. This role demands strong technical skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced news environment to deliver accurate, engaging, and visually compelling content that aligns with story objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Filming & Video Production
- Film and edit (rough cuts) news stories, interviews, and live events for television broadcast and digital platforms.
- Operate various broadcast cameras, Mojo devices, audio equipment, and lighting to ensure high-quality video production.
- Maintain technical quality standards, including proper framing, lighting composition, and high-quality sound recording.
- Select, assemble, and position equipment as per the shooting brief, ensuring optimal angles and movements for capturing broadcast-quality visuals.
- Cover breaking news, press conferences, and live events under tight deadlines and extended hours.
- Record news packages, look-lives, sound bites, and capture b-roll as required.
- Work closely with reporters, producers, and studio directors to ensure stories are visually engaging, editorially sound, and aligned with story briefs.
- Ensure sufficient establishing shots, cutaways, and stock footage are captured on each shoot.
- Editing (Rough cuts)
- Edit footage using approved editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, etc.) to create compelling news packages.
- Assemble rough cuts and audio balancing to meet broadcast standards.
- Ingest and organize raw footage, ensuring metadata is properly entered for post- production to retrieve the footage.
- Collaborate with producers, reporters, and studio directors to enhance the visual storytelling aspect of news content.
- Work closely with post-production teams to ensure seamless editing workflows and proper footage utilization.
Technical & Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain, clean, and perform routine checks on video and audio equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Be able to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions in the field.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new video technologies, and best practices.
Operational & Compliance
- Adhere to ethical journalism standards and company policies.
- Work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays as required.
- Must be able to travel for assignments at short notice, both domestically and internationally.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma/Degree in Film, Television Production, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in news videography and video editing.
- Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
- Strong knowledge of camera operation, lighting techniques, exposure, and high-quality audio recording.
- Experience with live broadcasting and streaming technologies is a plus (LiveU, Aviwest, Mojo).
- A valid driver’s license and a valid passport is a prerequisite.
