General purpose is providing support function with respect to maintenance (electrical, plumbing, building) site and general office fittings and equipment maintenance and servicing at the Bioprocessing Platform. Provide operational support in different areas of the Platform activities

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum: Diploma: Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, N6 Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or integrated Trades Programme.
• Preference: BSc/B-Tech in any Bioprocess related field i.e. Mechanical or Chemical engineering, chemistry, chemical technology, biotechnology, applied chemistry etc.

Work Experience

• 1-3 years General knowledge and use of hand tools
• 1-3 years broad understanding of electrical, plumbing, landscaping, masonry, mechanical and related experience
• General understanding of functioning of equipment and machines as applicable within the Bioprocess environment
• Preference: Competence in a few bioprocess techniques and systems

Duties and Responsibilities

General Maintenance, operational support and Safety

• Develop a site maintenance plan and oversee service providers to maintain the lawn, clean the yard, parking area and utilities passage including general site upkeep etc.
• Develop and maintain a corrective action plan for all internal and external equipment inspections including the chiller unit and the effluent sump when required, and undertake minor plumbing and electrical repairs where applicable
• Develop a maintenance plan and servicing of critical equipment (i.e. water chiller unit, steam reducer valve, steam traps) Where necessary diagnose, calibrate and treat the unit
• Coordinate the procurement critical spares for equipment maintenance to minimize breakdown.
• Undertake regular stock assessment of gasses used in operating the laboratory equipment in both IDR and Bioprocessing and effect purchase of gasses where necessary.
• Lead process of configuring the laboratories by arranging, moving or placing equipment to function optimally and per defined process flow.
• Provide troubleshooting support on equipment especially on bioprocessing equipment and participate in process development activities where required.
• Assist in determining the competency on utility operations by the technicians and interns.
• Ensures that general equipment i.e. cleaning, yard maintenance and landscaping is kept in good condition and stored appropriately.

Stakeholder Relations Plans

• Provides support to clients during the design and commissioning of their equipment and facilities
• Initiate stock order, receive and supervise installation where necessary.
• Liaise and be a point of contact for utilities or building maintenance suppliers\service providers when they are on site to fix utilities equipment, or when equipment is malfunctioning.
• Ensure that service providers are given correct instruction\information on faulty utility\ equipment.

Internal Processes

• Recommend and oversee repairs to defects and renovates interior/ exterior building surfaces and surroundings where applicable.
• Relevant quotations are sourced.
• Record keeping of job cards\service reports in the appropriate files.
• Fault finding and identification of operating system faults
• Ensure proper functioning of utilities by performing daily monitoring.
• General maintenance and safety of the Platform

Governance and Compliance

• Implements Safety Health Environment systems and procedures in area of work
• Assume custodianship and ensure limited SHE incident relating to site safety risks.
