Job Description:

The Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for safeguarding an organisation's systems and networks. This role involves protecting sensitive data, identifying potential threats, and implementing security measures to prevent cyberattacks and breaches. The Cyber Security Engineer works closely with IT teams, management, and other stakeholders to ensure the organisation's information assets are secure.

Responsibilities:

Duties will include, but is not limited to:

• Design, Architect and Deploy cyber security solutions when required
• Conduct security assessments, recommend and implement best practices
• Conduct POCs, demos, presentations and implementations when required
• Document problems and resolutions for future reference
• Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning
• Troubleshooting of all related issues, including networks and security
• Driving day to day management with vendors (requests, changes and incidents) whilst adhering to the ITIL process
• Continued Process improvement
• Driving implementation of policies and standards across cyber security products
• Cyber Security projects, installations, upgrades and advanced troubleshooting
• Security Consulting
• Perform due diligence on systems & controls
• Perform pre- and post-implementation reviews
• Pro-actively research new threats, exploits and vulnerabilities
• Assisting in driving and coordinating Security Operations involvement
• Technical Monthly reports
• Influence multi-disciplinary teams in implementing and operating cyber security controls
• Customer and client engagement
• Creating accurate project specifications and finishing on time and within budget
• Configuration of practical labs and mentorship

Required skills and qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years relevant and proven work experience as a Security Engineer
• Strong knowledge of cyber security principles, practices, technologies, and tools
• Hands-on experience with cyber security systems such as endpoint protection, intrusion detection/prevention systems, mail security and firewalls
• Good knowledge of networking and various operating systems as well as security technologies and frameworks
• Ability to work within constraints of service level agreements, strict deadlines and follow strict procedures
• Ability to recommend solutions based on use cases and business requirements
• Self-motivated, committed to offering a professional service of the highest standard and be able to work independently
• Ability to build positive working relationships
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills

Preferred skills and qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or related preferable (minimum NQF level 5 equivalent)
• Microsoft Office Suite
• A+, N+, S+ and CISSP certifications with regards to firewalls, databases, IPS's and SIEM
