Position: Senior Mechanical Draftsperson-Designer

Location: South Africa

Role Overview

As the Senior Mechanical Draftsperson-Designer, you will bring your extensive mining-related drafting and design experience to support AMC’S open Pit and Underground Mining projects. Working closely with Engineers and Consultants, you will provide high-quality drawing, 3D models, and bill of materials to support studies from scoping through to feasibility level. You’ll also maintain AMC’S drawing archives, assist with IT network tasks when required, and contribute to continuous improvement across project documentation and drafting practices.

Core functions

• Apply extensive drafting and design experience to underground and open pit mining projects at various study levels (concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility).
• Deliver high-quality engineering drawings and 3D models to support project outcomes.
• Prepare bills of materials to assist in cost estimation activities.
• Maintain and manage AMC’s drawing archives and ensure proper version control.
• Collaborate with Engineers, Consultants, and Project Managers to deliver technical assignments.
• Comply with AMC’s internal policies, procedures, and Risk Management framework.
• Assist with IT-related support tasks as directed.
• Manage personal development and supervise junior/support staff when required.

Qualifications And Experience

• Diploma or relevant qualification in Engineering Design Drafting (Mechanical discipline).
• Additional qualifications or experience in Civil and Structural drafting highly regarded.
• 9–15 years’ experience in mechanical design drafting, ideally in mining or related heavy industries.
• Demonstrated involvement in open pit and underground infrastructure design.
• Experience producing and reviewing drawings across all project stages (concept to feasibility).
• Confident working under limited supervision and managing technical work independently.
• Familiar with AutoCAD, Navisworks, and document control processes.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, safety regulations, and drafting standards.
