Lycopodium Marine & Minerals is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic, growing team. Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for proficiently managing the coordination and production of design outputs that are fit for purpose and in alignment with Project and Study requirements.

Lycopodium Marine & Minerals is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic, growing team. Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for proficiently managing the coordination and production of design outputs that are fit for purpose and in alignment with Project and Study requirements.
The tasks you'll perform
- Manage multiple tasks and prioritise where necessary to achieve agreed deliverables to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Perform accurate engineering mechanical and piping design and calculations.
- Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications and scopes.
- Liaise with and provide professional support to draughting team in the preparation of drawing deliverables.
- Inter-disciplinary co-ordination of technical aspects of the design.
- Develop technical documentation including scopes of work and specifications using relevant industry standards and guidelines.
- Produce accurate engineering lists including but not limited to: equipment, lubrication, spares, valves, pipeline and special items.
- Provide accurate material take-offs as and when required.
- Compile tender technical pack and provide technical recommendations for the procurement of equipment, bulk supplies and construction contracts.
- Assist with the provision of engineering documentation in relation to scope, quantities, cost and schedule.
- Review vendor certified documentation and disseminate the information to the appropriate personnel for interface checking.
- Maintain an understanding of the latest developments to Industry and Project specific codes, standards and related engineering matters.
- Work in conjunction with a range of internal and external stakeholders to meet project design criteria and deliverables.
- Register and file all relevant engineering documentation in accordance with Company approved procedures.
- Proactively support other team members as required to ensure Project deliverables are met.
- Travel as required to meet operational and business requirements.
- Tertiary level qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 3 years’ relevant experience, preferably in a minerals processing or projects environment.
- Technical background with a broad multi-disciplinary base, preferably in minerals processing plants / infrastructure construction.
- South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Cape Town based
- Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables, within budget and schedule constraints.
- Demonstrate an ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues across all business units.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including clients, vendors and colleagues.
- Proactively seek out and accept guidance and feedback provided by subject matter experts.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in a team and knowledge sharing environment.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and a practical approach to solving engineering problems.
