A Senior Level Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) is required to complement the Environmental Planning and Advisory team sitting in the mining team. The candidate will primarily offer an independent environmental assessment role on large-scale mining related projects locally and internationally requiring approvals in terms of local legislation and international best practices

KEY COMPETENCIES AND GENERIC SKILLS:

  • Between 4- and 7-years’ experience in ESIA’s, Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management Plans and Compliance Auditing projects and/or ESDD consulting assignments.
  • Experience with mining projects is a requirement.
  • EAPASA Registration is a requirement.
  • Good working knowledge of the South African environmental legislation with in-depth knowledge of the MPRDA requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Delivering Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Basic Assessments, Environmental Management Plans and Compliance Auditing projects and/or Environmental and Social Due Diligence assessments.
  • Delivering local and international (Africa) projects.
  • Engaging with Clients and other stakeholders.
  • Leading Public Participation Processes.
  • Project Management.
  • Managing Specialist Teams.
  • Preparing Proposals related to the above.
  • Working both independently and in a team.
  • Between 4 and 7 years’ experience in ESIA’s, Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management Plans and Compliance Auditing projects and/or ESDD consulting assignments.
  • Experience with mining projects is a requirement.
  • EAPASA Registration is a requirement.
  • Good working knowledge of the South African environmental legislation with in-depth knowledge of the MPRDA requirements.
  • Experience in the industrial, renewable energy and/or infrastructure sectors is beneficial.
  • Understanding of broader environmental and social issues (i.e. air quality, waste management, ecological, social, etc.)
  • Ability to travel in Sub Sahara Africa (outside of South Africa) if required.
  • Drivers Licence.
  • Strong technical report writing skills, producing professional reports in fluent English.
  • Strong Project management skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills.

Strong preference will be given to:

  • Candidates who are able to read, write and converse in French.
  • Candidates that have published scientific papers in relevant subject matter.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • An Honours or higher degree in a relevant environmental sciences discipline. A Masters, with a research component is preferable.
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience; however, applicants with up to 7 years’ working experience in an environmental consulting environment may be given preference.
  • Project experience in the mining sector.
  • Knowledge and application of International Standards, such as IFC Performance Standards, AfDB Safeguards and Equator Principles, are beneficial
