Overview
The RISE South Africa Project supports the strengthening of integrated health systems with a strong focus on vaccine readiness, surveillance, and emergency response. Implemented in partnership with the National Department of Health, the project aims to enhance early warning and surveillance systems by rolling out Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR), Event-Based Surveillance (EBS), and Community-Based Surveillance (CEBS). These efforts are designed to improve the country’s ability to detect and respond to public health threats in a timely and coordinated manner. RISE further supports outbreak response by strengthening IDSR implementation at all levels, including capacity building for contact tracing, case investigation, and the use of standard operating procedures.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Economics, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in developing strategic documents, including strategic plans, SOPs, policies, and operational plans.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, operational planning, and development of guidelines or policy documents.
- Extensive experience facilitating strategic planning sessions or stakeholder workshops.
- Demonstrated expertise in budgeting and costing of public health programs.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, including document structuring, editing, and layout.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management tools (e.g., MS Project).
- Proven experience in the health sector, particularly in disease surveillance or strategic health programming.
- Familiarity with WHO IDSR guidelines.
- Previous experience with USAID-funded initiatives or international NGOs.
- Experience working with South Africa’s health surveillance landscape and stakeholders.
